push -1 squares? thunderwave...

Just a notion:

I find it odd, that thunderwaves and other powers push the target WIS modifier squares... I think they didn´t thought about using such powers when the associated secondary ability is lower than 10.

I liked the distinction in 3.x between ability modifier and ability bonus...

Also healers lore of clerics may also be wis bonus instead of modifier, so that a cleric with low wis could be viable...

Healing Lore is sooooo not the problem with a low WIS cleric.

I agree. If players want to play characters where their "primary" attribute is low, that is fine. They just have to live with the consequences.

It would be like saying that there is something wrong with "Biting Volley" a Ranger 7 attack power because it is suboptimal with an archer ranger with a 10 in Dexterity.

If you pick a power that uses a stat you have a 0 or negative modifer in, the problem isn't the system, it's the choice. It's like complaining that multiclassing fighter doesn't work when your wizard has an 8 Strength. Just don't do it, or at least expect what you get.

I think that the OP's point about thunderwave is wroth thinking. A wizard with a wisdom of 8 is perfectly viable. Say that wizard picked up thunderwave (maybe just in case he was stuck in melee). He uses the power and on a hit pushes the target -1 square.

Of course I'd rule that he pushes zero squares instead, but I can't find RAW to back me up.

A similar situation came up in our game yesterday, the GM decided that in his game, all power side effects based on a stat modifier where a 0 or lower would completely negate the effect have an implicit minimum of one. So for example, Thunderwave with a Wisdom of 10 would push a minimum of 1 square (a push of 0 isn't a push), but Commander's Strike with an Int of 10 would let the ally attack but with no damage bonus (the primary effect is the attack, the 0 damage bonus doesn't negate the attack).

That works for us, but YMMV. He has also decided that the best way to prevent power creep from supplements is to consider all unnamed bonuses from feats as feat bonuses, unnamed bonuses from items as item bonuses, etc., to prevent excessive bonus stacking.
