Push and Pull

Not quite. The square around the corner isn't farther away than the one directly down the hallway, so you can't push them around the corner here.
Now how did you arrive at that decision? Since moving diagonal is not an option across square filling obstacles, would that not mean pushing someone around a corner would count as farther away?

Now I don’t think it should, but 4E’s movement rules may say otherwise.

I'm kind of liking the new rules so far, can't wait to see how they play in more situations than fighting kobolds. :)

Yah, I wish there were more better 1st level humanoids than kobolds and goblins. Sure, those are fun choices, but how about an enemy that isn't all shifty all the time?

1-2 and 1-3 are the same distance in the rules. 1-2-3 is a 3 square move, but 2->3 isn't moving away, since from 1, the distance is the same.

I use a simple rule:

Make a line from the attacker to the target. When the attack pushes, the target will continue the line away from the attacker, when the power pulls the target moves through the line towards the attacker. Whe the attack slides...the attacker decides what happens (besides IMHO slides should be in a straight line alone).

Hope have helped.
