Putting your money where your mouth is.

I've been very critical of DDI and, I think, with good reason. I signed up for a month a week ago just to see if it was worthwhile and although I feel the Dungeon and Dragon content are nice, ultimately the rest of the tools are very 'meh'. Nice to have, but certainly not worth paying for.

The Character Builder, however, has me just a little bit excited. I'm curbing my enthusiasm however given past performances, but I really quite like the beta demo. If the bugs are ironed out and it really does give carte blanche access to all the published material, then I have to say, "Wow."

Seven days to go until the end of January and their promise to deliver the full version before this date. Do you think they'll pull it off or do you think we'll see another delay? Are you willing to put your money where your mouth is and subscribe in the hope of getting access to it or will you wait and see?

I think they'll release something. Whether it's ready or not for release when it's put out is something else entirely. It'll be interesting to see how stable it is, and how many major bugs still remain when it's declared ready for release.

I currently have a subscription for the Dragon and Dungeon content, I am pretty OK with them so far and I figured why not. I like the Character Builder Beta so far, and like you said if you get access to all the content that will be nice. However I think the Character Builder is great for players, not so much for a DM like me. Since the "system" for building NPCs has changed I really have no use for the character builder. So I will continue my subscription for now I wish it was a bit cheaper. I do not think it will be done by the end of the month, until they actually show they can handle all this software which they have yet to do I am not getting my hopes up....it's kinda like being a Philadelphia Eagles fan...I do not think it will be done. I will continue my subscription though for the magazine content and I like seeing the previews of the new classes.

I would love to see a Monster/NPC Builder, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

I'd like to point you to: http://www.enworld.org/forum/genera...-insider-6-months-later-changing-my-mind.html

It seems that some people find a lot of use in the "bonus tools". And I definitely agree with the notion there that a monster builder would be cool. (It would have been cool for 3E, too. ;) )

I haven't used the bonus tools much yet, since I am running the H/P/E series, but I might be running an online game of 4E soon, and I think they might provide useful then.

I am definitely looking forward to the Character Builder.

releasing at the end of jan would coincide with ddxp, so i'm guessing that's the purpose of the target date.
(as a matter of comparison, if i recall correctly, gencon is when they were first showing off the initial release to the public.)

Nice to see someone has ascended to fill the void left by resident skeptic justanobody. :)

Based on the quality of the early 1st-3rd lvl release, I don't think we should have expectations of anything other than a stable product.

Well, the way people jump up to note that Wizards wasn't very specific, I'm surprised we haven't had anyone go, "Well, they didn't say Jan 09!"

I wouldn't be holding my breath. I'm not trying to stir the pot or get flames happening in this thread. I am generally pretty supportive of WotC. However, their handling of electonic products to date has ranged from below average to poor in my opinion.

I really do hope that there is something by the end of the month, that it works well and everyone is really happy with it. Past experiences don't give me great expectations though.
