Also, if you think you know the solution ... should we simply put up solutions without explaining how you got it so that others can try?

Okay, I'm creeped out. The example sentence I pulled out of the air (because it had the right number of letters) is, in fact, the right answer.

Right?

...If that's true, that is really creepy...

Wait, you mean you didn't solve it immediately? Because I thought I was clever at 11:15 when I solved it immediately only to find that you had apparently solved it and cleverly used it as an example to prove you had found it innocuously, so I didn't post it. Am I to believe you aren't the genius I thought you were?

Is it a sentence substitution code, instead of a 1:1 cipher?

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by this, could you give an example?

I'll try and give an answer though ... to what I think you might mean.

Each letter in the expression to be decoded will be replaced by a single letter. The appearance of the same letter later in the code does not automatically imply that the replacement letter is the same. And, of course, there is a definite mathematic pattern to the replacement and not merely the DM's whim to pick random letters! :D

why it took me less than 5 minutes...

Yup :)

I picked a random sentence with the right number of letters to ask my question. Once he confirmed that there is definitely a pattern (not just letters picked at random), I deciphered it... and got my random sentence :D

I didn't try to solve it until I got confirmation that there was mathematical reason to it. Once I tried, it didn't take long... but my initial post was prior to the attempt.

Hyp's question gave me the formula immediately and as stevelabny said
If you use a common 3 letter word such as THE it won't be hard

Ah, okay :D I bet NLF found it even funnier than we did ;)
