PvP Nails the Edition Wars

Win. Even if the guy on left sounds a lot like me when the nerd rage boils up out of the sewers.
(Even though I'm pro both 3 *and* 4e, and not a guy.)

Yeah, I'm still trying to figure out how 3e fits into this picture. "Easily" seen as a shot on 3e or on people who dislike 4e? How? Writing your powers down on cards is a 4e thing, true, but, the guy on the left is bitching about the cards, not any 4e mechanics. So, it's not like he really hates 4e.

Substitute, as was said, cards for minis, or pretty much anything else for that matter that doesn't fit with some people's preconception of "how to play the game" and the joke still works.

Methinks people are actively trying to get insulted. I mean, it's not like the artist drew 4e fans as kindergarteners who cry and whine the second their demands are not met.

Which character in the strip is expressing a dislike for 4e? Which character is not yelling and calling the other character names?

This thread makes it an edition war ;p

Perhaps I misspoke. Instead of attributing it to editions, let me put it another way; at least from my perspective, Francis is clearly the I AM LOUD AND IRRATIONAL one while Cole is the calm one. Until the last panel.

Of course, this could be more then just a one shot, but a lead into a whole arc of NERD RAGE. And I could definately get behind that.

It doesn't. What you're seeing is the end result of people projecting their own, personal, insecurity on the comic. You're dead on about people actively trying to find personal offense, in my opinion.

But that still doesn't work.

Where are they expressing any preference for any system really? The only thing is that one character is putting his powers on cards. I saw the same, exactly same, criticism against people who used spell cards in 3e. You could change one single word in this whole comic, get the exact same joke, and it would be a 3e comic.

A bit of a far cry from the idea that dislikes 4e is an irrational jerk.

Truthfully, I never thought of it as edition vs edition until I saw this thread with "EDITION WAR" right on top of it :p

But again, I really doubt it was made with the intention to insult of offend anyone. But I can see how those that dislike the cards - the 3e in this situation, though I can easily see how it could apply to any other previous edition - is the irrational one.

It has nothing to do with dislike or liking 3e or 4e, I just don't like seeing an opinion marginalized into "Crazy screaming man." But, again, if this is the beginning of NERD RAGE the arch, I'm more then happy.

Guess it all comes down to point of view really.

I've seen way, way too many frothing rants about how this or that is "ruining the game", regardless of edition, to not get a chuckle here. Happened all the time in 3e. The second a new element was added in, the inevitable criticism leveled was that it was drawing from the "wrong" source and "destroying the soul" of the game. Whether it was wuxia elements in Bo9S, or "dungeonpunk" artwork. Didn't matter if it was an actually good or bad idea, it got attacked because it was doing it differently.
