Pyramid of Shadows Excerpts

TerraDave

5ever, or until 2024
In the depths of the Winterbole Forest, the Pyramid of Shadows waits

The 5 excerpts include adventure hooks, an artifact that can “befriend” the party, the initial encounter in the pyramid, and two other encounters.

It looks very interesting. Fantastic Locale, mysterious goals, plot twist (possibly?).

Disappearing Pyramids must be a strong theme - I also once ran some adventures using that idea. (Arcana Evolved) - including the "can't get out" part...

Just when I thought I had broken free of the Siren Call of 4E products, along comes this adventure.

Can't resist . . . must have . . . help meeeee...

I can't wait to get this and run my group through it. This is going to be our next big adventure.

Looks very cool. More interesting to me than H2 (though I thought they did a good job with it). Nice stuff, too, to drop connections into H1/H2. My group is about to finish up H1 and the inclusion of that
dragonborn outlaw gang
will be a neat interlude to drop some hints that they've been through the area as the group heads to Thunderspire. Lots of good stuff to hook... and definitely seems to have a higher level feel than the other two.

My group is nearing the end of H1 and I'm currently reading H2 to get familiar with it. I loved those excerpts and especially having the hooks this far in advance to plan for and drop connections into H1 and H2. [sblock=Spoilers]I'm planning on making the Eladrin 'head in an orb' artifact be a relative of the Eladrin wizardess in the party. We'll see if that ends up being a happy family reunion or a chopping up of the family tree when the time comes.[/sblock]

From what I've seen, these adventures are each getting better than the last, so I look forward to the future modules with hope that they continue the trend.

This looks very promising. There are bucketloads of juicy ideas in those previews, and I love The Head of Vyrellis.

The adventure sounds a lot like the kind of stuff TSR was putting out in the late 1e era a la Desert of Desolation, Ravenloft, and the UK series.

Hope this one lives up to the promise, and becomes an instant classic!

How about this idea H1&H3 spoilers
How about making Kalarel somehow connected with H3? You could either swap him out with the BBEG? Not as good an idea cause BBEG sounds kind of cool... or...

What if he's actually the head in the orb unbeknownest to the players? Perhaps being pulled into the portal locked him in some kind of weird prison form and now he hates his former master who sent him off to do this deed which through opening up the portal he hoped to be set free. So now he's hell bent on trying to kill him and realizes that all he did was splinter him off. Kalarel was previously in the pyramid so he knows the layout. Maybe he gets put back there in prison or perhaps the orb becomes something the players can take from the keep once the portal closes? Or perhaps they don't see it but some other adventurer tries to hock it in Thunderspire and it ends up back in the players hands?

Back to the Kalarel as BBEG in H3... what if you did some cool time tricks. Kalarel failed and was thrown into the shadowfell. He spent years trapped there but his destiny pushes him forward until some dark deed thousands of years in time. Convincing himself that cursed blood is the only way to strengthen himself to return to the mortal world, he uses a dark ritual in an attempt to make himself more powerful. Finally, those in the future push him to be locked up in a special prison in the Pyramid... a prison cell where time runs backward. His new twisted form makes him appear to be a Tiefling, though he is not... and for thousands of years (backwards) he is locked up until the shattering of the shadowfell and his imprisonment splits himself into the splinters and breaks the curse of the cell he's in... giving him the opportunity to break free in current time.
Wow that was more complex than I'd intended! Any other ideas?

Well, Here is a monster counter sheet of what was listed in the preview article. [sblock=H3 Preview monster counter sheet]
