Q: any official method of changing a cleric's chosen domains?

I'd rather not open this can in the "house rules" forum... I was hoping there was something written that offers guidlines, details xp penalties, etc. Something that lends some balance/consistency to this in-game action.

As Arbiter implied, there's nothing official regarding this, though any solution IMO would be more of how the DM cared to wing it than a "house rule." I believe the Forgotten Realms has something on switching deities (as far as the setting goes), but I could be wrong.

Your choice of course, but personally I'd just roleplay the change, maybe somehow turn it into some sort of adventure hook if it hasn't happened already. Atonement would probably be a good spell to use to seal the change. Maybe the PC needs to go fetch a relic of this god, or maybe do something to show that he completely rejects his old faith? If they're friendly gods though then I don't imagine the transition would be too difficult. Personally, I don't see much reason to be too strict about this.

Nope, that's something I wondered about myself
well, great minds think alike
Talk to it with your DM or make a house rule (depending on whether you're the DM)
I'd check FR though, CronoDekar might know something I don't :heh:

You aren't. On page 233, under the "Changing Deities" section, it says, "Once these two conditions are met [going on a quest for the new church, and then receiving an atonement spell], the character becomes a divine spellcaster of the new deity, and if a cleric, he chooses two domains from the new deity's repertoire."

While the above may be in an FR book, it seems reasonable to apply it to non-Realms games as well.

Based on that.... (but assuming you just changing domains for the same god...) I would allow them to easily change domains up to 3rd level. (Maybe a sacrifice, or 24 hour meditation, etc.) After that, I would require some sort of appropriate quest, this is to show to the divine power that you are serious about wanting to champion a different one of his/her causes. It would not have to be a very difficult quest, but rather one that shows dedication..
