The first I heard of the Vaati and the Wind Dukes was in the Ro7P maxed set, and if I recall correctly they are the same thing in that adventure.

Unless I am mistaken, Rod of Seven Parts was originally a novel that was turned into a mega-adventure boxed set for 2nd edition.

The Wind Dukes of Aqaa are mentioned in the Rod's description in the 2e DMG, and (although IDHTBIFOM) they may be in the 1e DMG as well. Vaati is a new term in the module, IIRC.

All of these things can certainly be addressed in a ret-con type article, but I'm also aware/suspect that a lot of people out there really like her as she is, so I'm hesitant to dive in there and do a lot of changing just to satisfy my own hangups about her.

I doubt it, actually. She isn't one of the Beloved Ones. I mean, although she was name-dropped earlier, essentially she owes everything about her either to one late-2e generic adventure that no one seems to have much liked and then the Paizo/Fiendish Codex I stuff.

I, at least, have no strong feelings about her one way or t'other, and I'm a horrible nerd when it comes to planar continuity. If I don't care, I doubt others will be very disturbed.

I say, knock yourself out. Change her completely. Get rid of her humanoid features (that was just an aspect!), change her name to Shaau'droolgor (an ancient obyrith word meaning "strongest among those of Chaos"), ignore the spyder-fiends. The mythos established for her in the FC1 seems like it would be awkward to change now, since it's tied to the history of so many other demons (and even the archomentals, now), but I'm open-minded (at least on this particular occasion, I am).

I have a PbP Ro7P here on EN World. The magnitude of my excitement to run that boxed set has admittedly been tempered by the theme and backdrop against which the adventure is set, the Queen of Chaos included. It's a bit hokey. Trying to swallow, digest, or otherwise morph a few of the more barf-worthy tidbits from the boxed set has been a sometimes uncomfortable experience for me.

As a DM currently running Ro7P, I'd like to see a re-do of Her Majesty. The entry on the Queen is sufficiently vague enough that re-tooling her seems unlikely to interfere with things. Perhaps more importantly, while the Ro7P seems to inexplicably make many gamers water in the mouth, as best I can tell not that many folks are currently running or playing in it. You'd probably be relatively safe doing a re-write. Provided permission could be obtained, yada yada. :\

Sorry, Hobo, I have the boxed set here at my desk at home but I'm left short with a way to post it for you to see. Despite my grumps above about a little of the content, the box itself is pretty swanky. Nicely designed, pretty.

I really like the Ro7P adventure. Except for the dungeon crawl (which I replaced with book 3 of night below), the adventure segments were interesting and my players had a lot of fun.

Queen of Chaos... let's just say even back then, I found the similarity to Ursula conspicuous...

Has anyone else noticed that the queen of chaos resembles Ursula from "The
Little Mermaid"? Both are huge, bloated female forms with tentacles that
weild magical power, including the ability to take on human or merman form.

I think skip williams had best lay off the disney movies before making another
product.

The neverending Story... of EVIL!!!

Well, the physical appearance seems to be the easiest thing to change. I mean, if Orcus can get all lean and mean and Demogorgon can flirt with having green hyena heads instead of mandrill ones, then it should be a heckuva lot easier to update the Queen of Chaos's image. Maybe give her an actual name while you're at it.
Here's a crazy thought. What if not having a name is precisely what's keeping her in stasis? If somebody on the Other Side in the original Chaos War somehow took it away from her, and thus- being without a True Name- she can't exist anywhere in the multiverse except as a shadow of her former being in her own layer, which still "remembers" her?

Sooner or later, someone or something sets into motion a plan to give the Queen a new Name... BEGIN CAMPAIGN HERE.

Too cliché?

IMC she is weakened from her original state, and the power behind the throne of the City of Brass, controlling the Sultan from her tower there. There she plots a new war to find and destroy the remnants of the Vaati, who are spread across the Planes. Unknowingly, the efreet are her pawns in an attempt to regain the power she once had.

I think that's a very cool and interesting plot arc. Sounds like fun!
