D&D 3E/3.5 Question about 3rd Edition (3E) Nymphs Kiss

Emperawr

First Post
Hello all

Its my first time posting here but it appears to be to be a huge and wonderful conglomeration of DND minded people like myself and I look forward to utilizing this resource and hopefully contributing myself.

Ok so my first question out of a series of posts im sure ill be posting is about the exhalted feat nymphs kiss from the book of exhalted deeds.

NYMPH’S KISS [EXALTED]
By maintaining an intimate relationship with a good-aligned fey
(such as a nymph or dryad), you gain some of the characteristics
of fey.
Benefit: Fey creatures regard you as though you were fey. You gain a +2 circumstance bonus on all Charisma-related checks, and a +1 bonus on all saving throws against spells and spell-like abilities. Starting with the level when you take this feat, you gain 1 extra skill point per level.

So im wondering about the +2 circumstance bonus on all charisma related checks. So is that just a +2 to skill checks that are based on charisma or does that apply to feats like divine shield or abilities like censure demons? Im not sure as to the breadth of how far this expands and what it encompasses. Any clarification on this point would be extremely helpful. Thanks in advance :)

It should also add to other checks, aside from skill checks. The important thing to note is what checks are. SKill checks are the most common variety, but there are others. Checks, unlike saving throws and attack rolls, do not automatically succeed or fail on a natural roll of 20 or 1. That is the main difference.

From there, you just have ot read carefully to see if a particular action is a check, the authors were generally pretty careful with hteir wording on this issue. One example is Intiative, which is called a dexterity check. As far as charisma checks and charisma-based checks go, in core there is the Turn Undead mechanic. Nymph's Kiss would benefit that. It would not benefit a Paladin's savings throws when he gets Divine Grace, even though he is adding his charisma modifer to the rolls, because those are still not checks. In core, the only other charisma check I can think of is when you may need to roll one when fighting with another mage for control of a dominated subject.

Divine Shield is just a bonus to your shield AC, so it would not add to that. I forget what censure demons does, so no comment there.

Its a demonic variation of turn undead that the Knights of the Chalice presitge class has in the Defenders of the Faith book. Hmm so it seems like the +2 circumstance charisma bonus isnt really all that useful. Well thankfully the extra skill points and the extra bonus against spells is still nice

UMD says hi

Do you ever talk your way into/out of trouble in your games or are they more hack and slash?? Intimidate, Bluff and Diplomacy are all Cha based as well

UMD????? I think i'm missing something here

As far as talking myself into or out of stuff, not in this campaign so far. But im only two missions in since I was coming into this campaign late. I do have an uber high diplomacy though. Its just been lots of hack and slash so far. Actually I think i'm gonna post up the details of my character so I can get opinions from everyone. The nice thing about coming in late is that I got to come in at level nine right at the beginning of a huge swing in the story where everyone ended up gaining like 6 level and getting a bunch of uber stuff from a Gold Dragon Great Wyrm who let us use a modified deck of many things.

Use Magic Device is a powerful skill.

Don think paladins can use Use Magic Device skill. My character has 1 level in Ranger, 5 levels in paladin, 3 levels in Sword of Righteosness, and 6 levels in Knight of the Chalice. Dont think any of those get that skill but yeah it would apply to that.
