Question about a class - Golden One?

I bumped into an old co-worker I haven't seen in 25 years. He used to play D&D and is interested in joining my game.

My table is fairly full, but I invited him to drop in as a guest player, just for fun.

He's interested in running a Cleric. He's new to D&D 3.*, and is reading up what he can. He mentioned "Golden One" as something he's interested in.

I think he's talking about a class, but I'm not sure. Never heard of it.

Can anybody spare me a clue?

I know of no ACFs or other substitutions for clerics that even reference "golden" anything. Considering I rewrote the ACF handbook and Dragon Mag ACF handbook that should be quite telling.

If he's talking about prestige classes then the wikipedia list likewise mentions nothing "golden" although there is the Goldeye PrC from Faiths and Pantheons. Was your player looking through that book?

Paladins and rogues do have a couple ACFs with gold in the name, but I don't think that's what your player had in mind.

Straight up ask your player what he's talking about and where it comes from. If you can't verify it's legit then don't allow it.

I did ask him. He says it's from the Prestige Class Handbook, but I don't have that book, or even know who wrote it. I'm guessing that it's referencing PRCs from other source books.

He might be referring to the one from Faiths and Pantheons.

Thanks for the help.

A quick googling tells me there's a homebrew race called "Golden One." You can find it here, but the basic gist is that they're giants descended of the gods, or "humans enlarged and perfected." Giant, +8 Str, +6 Con, +2 Int, +4 Cha, 5HD, regeneration.. basically, probably not what you want in-game.

I've never heard of that either. Not the class or a "prestige class handbook." It almost sounds like a NetBook, and I know there's no way I would have seen all of those. Your best bet is to ask him to show you the book he's talking about, so you can decide based on that.
