Question about counterspelling

Thanks! :D This was a stumper for our group, since almost no one in our group ever counterspells anything (it just doesn't really ever come up, you know?). I thought it would be a great question to bring up here and get some great answers.

I pretty much figured as much, that either the spell (effect) from the wand wouldn't trigger the ring at all or that the proper spell would be needed. I'm not really sure what spell was in the wand anyway (if was a wand), and no one had the chance to make a spellcraft roll to find out anyway.

Thanks for an insightful answer!

Almost no one does it in our group either - but a BBEG will be soon ::evil chuckle::

But be careful about that spellcraft roll with the ring of counterspells! It's not required at all - provided the same spell is being cast at the bearer of the ring as is stored in the ring, the ring automatically counters it.

What an evil thing to do - fill it with 'cure' spells and leave several laying around the exterior entrance to a lair of a BBEG... Players will put them on - and won't be able to cure each other ::grin::

In answer to the 3.0 question - yes, it's the same. Check your DMG or PHB instead of the SRD (it's not there).

That's the problem with Dispel Magic in the ring of counterspells... it will counterspell automatically any Dispel Magic cast upon the wearer, nothing else.
