Question about Killing another Fighter...

I've killed Rathan's Tori Sadoshi with my Gustaf. I was a white belt, he was a thug out of luck. I advance 3 ranks, I'm pretty sure about that. I can follow the path of light (pretty sure). I won a yen early in the fight, so that's mine. What happens to Tori's two yen left over? Does my character have the opportunity to pick them up to possibly hand to Rathan's new character should he choose to make a replacement for Tori... or does the yen just "disappear" along with his character?

The yen disappear, they are assumed to go to Funeral Expenses, unless you made an agreement about yen before the fight or he offers you yen to spare him, etc.
