Question about OGL

Does OGL content need the d20 logo?

The reason I asked is, on another thread Hunter Gordon of QLI publisher of Travller d20 said he's thinking of going OGL. Does that mean he's free to use OGL content from other publishers?

In the same thread he said T20 wasn't going to use the D20 modern SRD, so that why I'm confused? :) And I'm a lawyer just don't do patent/trademark stuff :)

No.

Yes. He's free to use anything released under the OGL, so long as he cites it in the license that he appends to his own work.

This simply means that he'll be developing his own OGC system or drawing on one other than that presented in the d20 Modern SRD.

OGL content is licensed separately from the D20 logo license.
D20 lincense stuff must contain OGL content but a OGL product doesn't need the D20 logo.

I concur with Gilwen and jdrakeh.

The OGL does not require the d20 logo. But the d20 logo (the basis for the d20 System Trademark [Use] License and the accompanying Trademark Usage Guide) does require the OGL due to minimum OGC requirement.

No. The d20 logo is solely to indicate compatibility with the Players' Handbook & etc (or d20 Modern, etc, etc).

He's free to use 3rd-party OGC content with or without the d20 license. Other people's use of the d20 license has absolutely no effect on you.

Guys,

I think the real reason he's going OGL is because you can't include character creation guidelines, an XP chart, and stat generation in a product with a D20 logo, but you can do that with an OGL product. That's my understanding, anyway.

Hope this helps,
Flynn

Well you can use an XP chart, T20 has always had one. I'm not sure where that idea ever came from. You just can't use the one from the core d20 books.

Beyond that, you pretty much hit the nail on the head. Lets us release a stand-alone book for character creation.

Already answered.

Not going to use d20 Modern or Future because they don't fit well with Traveller IMO.
