Question about submitted creatures.

i have no idea what they are currently planning, other than the fact that they are planning on printing even more monsters now than they did before. erik did intimate to me that Shade and I would have opportunities to do more work for them in the future, but the specifics of this are yet to be seen. guess we'll all find out the new way of doing things at the same time!

i haven't heard from shade since before yesterday, so i have no idea whether or not he knows about this yet...

Gosh.. I don't know if this was a good idea or not but here goes. I just finished emailing Paizo a huge email giving them praise etc amongst other things. Anyways, I had a thread on their message boards about filling up all the missing dragons in 3rd edition. I was trying to convince them that their last issue should be huge, and I mean huge and that maybe they should include the true neutrals, electrum, the REAL cloud, faerunian yellow and the remaining Linnorms and maybe another dragon here and there. Doubt it will happen but I tried to give Boz, Shade and you others a good job opportunity if it happens, you may be contacted to do up stats. I hope that is cool with you but that was my originial purpose for the post, i was going to submit a few dragons to them but then the bad news broke. So I said heck with it. So I could care less for getting any money at all, I just want to see ALL OF THOSE ICONIC BEASTS PRINTED!!! You guys aren't mad are ya? I just thought it would be cool. Anyways later.

I was enjoying myself at my sister's wedding and came back last night for the ultimate buzzkill. :(

I'm not sure what options we'll have with Paizo in the future, but I think it's safe to say we won't be updating any old monsters. The best we can hope for is to update them and modify them beyond obvious recognition.

I love creating monsters, but I prefer to bring back the gems from the past. I'm really hoping the new WotC offering will take submissions, as I'm still bound and determined to bring back some of the lost classics.

yep, we're pretty much on the same page there. i had plenty to think about over the weekend. ;)

i imagine that if WotC wants to see conversions and is paying for submissions, we'll be doing the same as we did with Paizo. Erik Mona hinted by e-mail that there will be tons of opportunities for Shade and I to work with paizo in the future, since they will be printing monsters like it's going out of style. ;) i don't think they'll really need conversions anyway, since just about all the old critters they could ever want are in the ToH (which, due to working with NG instead of WotC becomes a legitimate source).

one thing i was thinking of is something that shade mentioned; we can take some of our conversion work and retool it into new creatures. we can also re-query our original creatures to WotC and Paizo and see where that falls. it all depends on what each company will want, and right now we know practically nothing.

Of the many, many, many things that suck about the magazines being closed down, is the fact that they were the primary source for getting monsters from previous editions officially updated. I wanted that stuff updated primarily for use in Dungeon adventures, but I was psyched to see the lesser water weird make an appearance in Barrow of the Forgotten King. Given the situation, I'm hoping for three things:

1. WoTC's new digital initiative will still serve this function.
2. Paizo publishes another Creature Catalog in some sort of final blow-out of monstrous proportions.
3. WoTC incorporates monsters from earlier editions into their modules. Expedition to the Demonweb Pits is somewhat encouraging in this regard.

i'm hoping for the same things. :)

Jason Bulmahn, even a few months ago, hinted that there would not be another CC feature this year. but you never know. the quickling is too cool not to use!
