Question About the Defend Trick

First Post
Hello Everyone,

Let's say you have an animal companion who knows the Defend trick (from the handle animal skill), but does not know the Attack trick. What restrictions, if any, are there to the types of creatures from which it will defend you? What about if it knows the Attack trick once, or if it knows the Attack trick twice? Does the Attack trick (or lack thereof) have any effect on the Defend trick?

Thanks,

Atavar

The animal will defend you against any threat, which means any creature. The knowledge of Attack has no relevance to it. Note that it's vs. any threat, so if it's within the animal's capable, it might defend you against a non-creature threat (not sure what, though, off the top of my head, perhaps dragging you away from an encroaching tide).

It doesn't specify. I wouldn't say a GM is out of line who only lets animals defend against creatures the attack trick would allow them to attack.

Actually I do know many dogs who wouldn't attack on command but who would be rather dangerous if their boss is being attacked.
