Question About the Post-3.5 OGL

I don't think you're entirely correct here. The d20 liscence, through the Trademark Guide, already bars you from using some potential OGC. You cannot use character generation in d20 liscensed materials, even if that character generation is from an OGC source.

...but character generation isn't OGC from WotC. The d20 System License prohibits rules for character generation and application of experience being described while using the d20 STL. WotC hasn't added those things into the original SRD and likely won't add them into the revised SRD. They aren't preventing you from using their OGC from the SRD, they are saying you can't add in new OGC that inserts this mechanic created by yourself or anyone else that if you do that you cannot use their additional d20 license. It's their right to do so.

Again, I am not conjuring monsters out of ether. In fact, I am very confident that Wizards has no intention of doing any of the things that I have said they could do. That does not invalidate the facts that a) they could find a way to do it through the d20STL if they really wanted to, and that b) there would be a mightly stink raised about it on this and every other forum.

Is it a fact that your arms might be surgically removed next week? At a certain point this just feels like someone in a theatre saying, "I hope there isn't FIRE! I think there are enough flames being fanned about things that are actual and find this additional attribution odd fuel despite your continued protestations that you wouldn't personally think along those lines.

Since you will not let this go without some concession then allow me to agree to some extent. What you seem to be saying is that it is possible that some people will be incredibly angry if some other people do something they haven't yet done if those first mentioned people unreasonably feel they are being restricted from doing something they have no right to do (and that, further, you are not among any of those people). Is this the crux of it? What is the point of the conjecture? Why not wait and see what comes from the ether?

Firstly, since we seem to be the only ones here, I will mail Mark directly with a more detailed message about this. However, to clarify for posterity here on this forum:

Never said otherwise. I proposed this example to illustrate that Wizards could compel people not to use some OGC, no matter what the source. If they can keep you from using chargen from Mutants and Masterminds in your d20 logo product, they could just as easily keep you from using the 3.0 ranger.

I said in my original post on this thread that Wizards could, through the d20 logo system, try to remove support for 3.0. That was the extent of it. Everything else I have said has been in reply to an assertion from you that my premise was flawed.
