Question for all you retail/game shop owners out there

Dragonblade

I'm thinking about maybe starting up a d20 focused game shop and was hoping to get some advice from other game store or comic shop owners.

What sort of capital do you recommend to get started?

How much inventory should I keep on hand? How often do you reorder?

What are the best distributors to buy from? Pros and Cons for the distributors?

Do you sell anything in addition to RPGs? Minis? Comics? Videogames? Boardgames?

Why or why not?

What sells well? (generally speaking, I don't expect you to divulge proprietary sales figures)

Any other advice?

I'm just starting to research this so any advice or tips to point me in the right direction would be appreciated.

I don't expect to get rich or anything. This is just something I have always been interested in.

No replies? Nothing?? Wow, EN World certainly has changed. There used to be a lot of retailers and publishers that lurked around that would jump on a thread like this.

Bummer...I was really hoping to get some advice from experienced people. :(

You might want to shell out for a Community Supporter account here on EN World. It might be helpful for market research in the future, but in the present I am sure there are a bunch of threads begun along the same subject that would give you a wealth of answers to the questions you are asking.

I gotta run right now or I'd do the search for you. Sorry. Next time I'm on the boards I'll try to check in this thread and see if you or someone else has managed to dig those up for you.
