Question for DM's: How to handle a blind character?

I am going to be running a blind character. Does anyone have DM experience with a blind PC?

The PC will have blindfight and eventually Blindsight 5 foot radius from the Sword and Fist.

I plan to have them make listen checks often to determine what direction battles are in and opponents as well as giving them a half-move penalty.

Can you think of any other rules that would apply to a blind PC?

If you are planning on being engaged in combat often as a blind character you will most often be on the self-defensive (attacking those who attack you) unless you have a way of determining friend from foe. Purchasing or training your own trained war dog or hawk would be key. The Ninja of the Crescent Moon from S&F might be a good prestige class to take since it has has blindsight 60ft(?) radius as a class ability.

Has the DM limited healing in the world? Cureing blindness is not that hard with magic.

What spell would you use to cure a person who was blind from birth? Heal?

He did not lose his sight during play or to a spell. He was born blind. It is not a wound or anything of the kind. Blindness from birth is a little more difficult to cure.

Half Speed and - 2 to skill use (rather than -4 as per the Blinded rules)

No spot checks

I'd say the rest of what you have above is very good

I saw another character around who didn't choose Blindsight ... but his DM custommade (HOUSERULE ALERT!) a feat Acute Listening...

Worked similar to Scent (but with Listen checks).

Was a barbarian. I remember hearing about a nice fight of him against four sneaky rogues hopping around him
