Question for my fellow slobs: Do you ever leave the house to prep for games?

You know, I've seriously never heard of book plates before.

Now I have an urge to make my own, in a classical wood-carving style on some avery full-sheet mailing labels... mmm...

"EX LIBRIS ASMOR"

I like the sound of it.

I usually just write in permanent marker along the edges of the paper within the book. You can't tear my name out because it's on every page. I hadn't heard of bookplates before either, but my system is easier and clear from any angle that you know who owns that book.

That is an amazing amount of clutter guys. That would drive me nuts. My wife and kids are all messy people and I am the kind of person that likes a clean desk to sit at (I say this as I stare at the piles of projects on my work desk). When I set about working on something I like to have my computer keyboard and monitor in line with my body so I am not contorted, with the book I am reading from to my left (yes, I am wierd but it's what works for me), and my drink cup near the upper left corner of my keyboard. That's it, nothing else. Computer, one book and a drink... I am happy. Oh, and silence... no music, no tv, no kids, etc. So yes, I do leave the house from time to time... I go to my workshop/gameroom/garage where I have a setup I like.

Why is there some sort of food plate *and* an antiacid bottle in both pictures?

I find that I'm a lot more able to work on RPG stuff at the office or even riding the bus than I am at home. It's got less to do with clutter at home than all the potential distractions. At home, I've got a wife, a dog, an unrestricted Internet connection, stacks of comics and RPG books that have nothing to do with my current campaign, and far too many computer games for my own good. And work, I've got things I'm eager to be distracted from. I'm seriously starting to consider walking over to the library to plan game stuff, but I'm really gonna need a laptop before I could be fully effective there.

Ha, not bad! Here's mine

Don't take this the wrong way, but how can you function in a house like that? I would be forced to take a vacation day to clean up.

Don't get me wrong -- I'm not a neat freak by any means. When I was in college, though, my (very concious) solution was to live very Spartan. My dorm (and, later, apartment) room had nothing that I didn't have a very immediate use for. My books and my clothes were the only things that even needed to be put away. My clothes got shoved in the dresser in a fashion that simply allowed the drawers to close and I'm neurotic about keeping my gaming stuff in good shape. Anyone who knew me in college will vouch for how stark my living area was.

When I got married, my wife actually wanted stuff, though. Now, it's mostly stuff she wanted that I leave laying around. Fortunately, she's a pretty tidy person.

No worries, sometimes I'm amazed at it myself.

What can I say, I've got that wonderful trifecta of being lazy, apathetic and a pack rat. You should have seen my room when I still lived with my dad... When I finally moved out, aside from some new furniture, everything that went into my (fairly large) apartment came from my old bedroom and practically filled the apartment up... and that's after having thrown out many bags of trash and old unwanted stuff.

Though I don't have any truck with order most of the time, I do have some flat surfaces around in the house. I keep some places, like the kitchen, free of clutter, and of course the gaming room is just for gaming, so after I put away the stray minis and the books, there's a nice table with plenty of space on it I don't have to use for anything else, so I can prepare all I want there. There's a computer in there, too, so I can write up stuff there if I want.

You could have left the last 4 words out and still have a good question here ;) :p

Dude....:(

I suggest investing in paper plates, utensils, and cups. That way you can just toss your food when you're done. No more dirty dishes and utensils sitting around the house.

I used to live like that..now I could never go back. I eventually got tired of having to make room to do anything.

Hopefully you get around to cleaning before you have to start tunneling through your house. I don't want you to get crushed or anything.

suffocated by clothes

Fear is the mind killer. You take your books to the library. Nobody bothers you unless the alarm goes off when you leave.
