Question for the Old Schoolers

Caveat: I more or less hate the Realms.

No, I think the 3e take on FR was awesome. The FRCS was great, had tons of detail and did a wonderful job of updating the setting to the 3e ruleset.

I do think that something was lost in the transition away from the original Forgotten Realms Gray Box, though.

I don't know if I qualify as an "Old Schooler", but I would say that the first boxed release of Forgotten Realms was amazing, but that later materials kind of sucked the life out of the setting, until the 3e book, which I actually liked. It had a lot of good ideas, several of which I stole for non-Realms gaming!

Mostly. The nuking of Tilverton, the return of the Shades, and a number of other "updates" really caused me to grind my teeth.

This. I really enjoyed running a 3E campaign using the FR Greybox (with a little 3E FRCS thrown in).
