Ok, you don't NEED it, it just helps a lot ;)

Sure, but it depends what you're fighting.

Wyrm white dragon... -10 might sound like a big penalty, but against a Touch AC of 6, for the extra attack each round against Fire Vulnerability, not having TWF isn't such a big deal...

-Hyp.

Right, but then I'd expect your char to have a BAB of more than +6, which means that ITWF might be interesting for yet another attack. TWD might be funny as well... though the Wyrm will eat you no matter what your AC is.

Btw, Power Attack would work with that thingie, right? OMG. Now it starts to become closer to broken :D

RANGE
A spell’s range indicates how far from you it can reach, as defined in the Range entry of the spell description. A spell’s range is the maximum distance from you that the spell’s effect can occur, as well as the maximum distance at which you can designate the spell’s point of origin. If any portion of the spell’s area would extend beyond this range, that area is wasted.

The spell's effect is the swordlike beam. The range is 0. The maximum distance from you that the swordlike beam can occur is 0. If you give it to someone else, the effect exceeds the range. No more swordlike beam.
Wouldn't that same logic mean that touch range spells, such as say, Bull's Strength cease to function as soon as the caster stops touching the target?

Bull's Strength doesn't have an effect, it has a target.

Gotcha.

Another discussion point - the spell describes a bladelike beam, and further defines it as 'immaterial'. If the blade is immaterial, are hands required to weild it, or could the druid cast flame blade, then shapechange to a bear and continue using it?

Since the beam is weilded "as a scimitar" I would think not, but I do like a good conversation. :)

I'd also like to know if you can use Power Attack with it... Also, can you wield it in two hands?

Assuming you qualify for it, could you take Spell Specialization (from T&B)? I don't have my book on me atm, but I think it adds +2 to the damage of a spell. Combine that with Weapon Focus (Scimitar) and it's not too shabby. Of course you'll need 4 levels of Fighter for that, but still...

Hmmm, I just thought of something else. Empower spell increases all the variables of a spell by 1.5, correct? Would that make the blade 4.5 feet? What would Widen spell do? Would it make a 6 foot long blade (thus a Reach weapon?)? I Widen didn't work, what about a double empower?

You are making melee attacks, thus it would seem that you could indeed power atack with it. And I don't see anything to stop it from being wielded two-handed. Of course, I'm at work right now and responding quickly, so the two-handed bit might be wrong.

Empower only changes variables, and the length of the blade is fixed. The spell doesn't have an area, so widen will not help.

Now for my question: does persistent spell say that you can't make effect spells persistent? If not, then having one of these babies in hand all day might not be too shabby. Two if your DM goes for it. Just be careful when scratching that itch. :)

Because you can't get your strength bonus to damage, and the blade is immaterial, I'd say that you can't use power attack, because it doesn't matter how hard you swing an immaterial bar, it burns or it doesn't.

Or, rather, you CAN use power attack, but it won't add any damage.

As for the handing off of a flameblade, I think that Hyp's ruling makes sense. However, assuming that you could get past the range, I'd say that, because your friend didn't cast the spell, not only would the blade pass stright through his hand, being immaterial and all, but he would sustain 1d8+1/2Caster Level in fire damage.
