Question on Haste in heavy armor

I'm not sure if this is a bug in Heroforge or not, but I wanted to check on this to make sure - Say, I have an NPC in heavy armor, meaning his move decreases from 30 to 20.

In Heroforge, I click on "Haste" in the "Buffs" tab and I figure his move should go from 20 to 50. However, in Heroforge, his move only goes up to 40.

Here is the spell descriptor for Haste: All of the hasted creature’s modes of movement (including land movement, burrow, climb, fly, and swim) increase by 30 feet, to a maximum of twice the subject’s normal speed using that form of movement. This increase counts as an enhancement bonus, and it affects the creature’s jumping distance as normal for increased speed.

I don't see anything in the spell descriptor or the armor descriptors that would indicate the hasted person would only get an additional 20 feet of movement? However, I could be wrong. Is Heroforge correct in this case?

Emphasis mine. I think this sentence does it - the character's current normal speed for that form of movement (walking, in this case) is 20 feet due to armor. Then you add up to 30 feet, reduced to 20 because of the highlighted clause. If the character managed to remove the armor during the duration of the haste, his speed would jump from 40 to 60, since his base speed goes back up to 30.

You mentally remove armor add Haste bonus then add back armor mentally.
60 = 40 in heavy armor. That is why.
 


I agree with the other posters. Subject's speed is it's unarmored, unencumbranceed speed. It increase by +30 up to one's normal speed. Then, affected by other factors such as wearing medium/heavy armor, encumbered, halved because of using some skills, etc.

If the creature's normal land speed is 30 ft. His land speed is 60 ft. when hasted. Then, reduced to 40 ft. in medium/heavy armor.
 

I disagree.

Example:

Let's say the subject's unarmored landspeed is 40, and it is being reduced by heavy armor to 30.

hasting him increases his unarmored landspeed to 70 (40+30) and his armored landspeed to 60 (twice his armored landspeed)

The speed added by haste is only restricted by the spell description (max twice), not the normal armor speed reduction.
 

Regardless of other factors, your speed unarmored is affected by the spell. Then armor has its normal effects on your new speed, thus reducing it.

A normal speed of 40 would become 70 under haste; but wearing medium or heavy armor would reduce a speed of 70 to 50. See the table, Armor and Encumbrance for other base speeds in the DMG. Nothing in the spell description removes speed penalties or reduces them in any way. Unfortunately, this means that a faster character gets a larger penalty.
