Bah, I usually take kreynold's word like it came straight from the FAQ.
You mean, to be carefully analysed, and sneered at if it fails to agree with the Core Rules?

But back to topic.... I had the player make a 6th level character, and we got to the point where he was "making" the weapon. He's using the dwarven metal from MoF (The stuff that does +1 Electrical and +1 Fire damage per hit) For his masterwork Rapier. I gave him a +2 limit on what bonuses could be used. So basically that stuck him with a +1 weapon, and a +1 ability since he didn't want a normal +2 weapon. When I got to the defender ability, I told him that would make a great ability combo with the wepaon material he's using. He could shunt the +1 to defense and still have a "+1" weapon to hit, and he would still get +2 to the damage roll (+1 fire & +1 electrical). And so the argument started.

I don't know which numbers are off here, but this really isn't necessary or even accurate. CRGreathouse has made enough correct calculations that the IRS would be happy to have 'im. Even if his numbers are off here, check out his various Generators. The man knows his numbers.Pax said:Um ... no offense, but ... I hope you don't work in accounting or banking. Or the IRS. *shudder*
Good question. My stance on it would be no, since your using the +1 for defense, the weapons magic bonus for attacking is +0. It would still have a non-magical +1 enhancment bonus to hit, but it would not bypass a +1 DR.Sir Whiskers said:Reading this thread has brought a slightly different question to mind:
Sword +1, Defender.
If the +1 is in defense, is the weapon treated as +1 for purposes of bypassing DR?
