Question: Opinions of WOT readers on book 10

Indeed, this was the first RJ novel where I was relieved to have finished it, rather than eager and impatient for the next installment. The lengthy section in the middle with Elayne was like walking through hip-deep mud.

Which was really annoying because Elayne's thread had a lot of potential. Lots of room for nice fun intrigue. It's just that she's been in Andor and an avowed claimant to the throne for three books, and she doesn't definitively have the Rose Crown yet.

I was turned on to the series about 5 or 6 years ago by a friend. I loved the first books (couldn't tell you when I began to lose faith), but the last bit of tripe was unforgivable.

I myself have been defending Jordans writing style and course of action, but book 10 was crap.....Pure unadulterated crap!!!! I work in a 42,000 head cattle feedyard and I know what bull$hit smells like.....

WoT

From what I've read, and heard from friends, the series is only supposed to be two or so books longer. If you look at it from that perspective, Book 10 wasn't that bad. It's like getting ready for that hot date. Takes work, and time, but once you're ready, you're really gonna have a good time on that date (one hopes!).

The events that will round out the series (if in 2 books or 20), will no doubt be BIG WORLD-SHAKING EVENTS. And so the stuff needs to be set up! Pieces are in place, and now all the cool, exciting things can happen.

And hey, for what it's worth in my humble opinion... if you weigh the good vs the bad in WoT and RJ's writing... the good vastly outweighs the bad. The only reason Book 10 was considered bad was because the other books were just that good. So keep that in mind when you get all worked up about the 'crap'.

:D

Jordan was saying "at least three more books" at the post-Lord of Chaos (book 6) signings. He was still saying the same thing at the post-Winter's Heart (book 9) signings. He's said "at least two more" more than once post-Crossroads of Twilight, but I can't see how CoT advanced the plot significantly from WH, so I have to think that there will be at least three more.

Also, the only time Jordan really pulled off the "setting up the next book" thing was the oone time many didn't realize he was doing it -- with Lord of Chaos and A Crown of Swords.

Alright, that's fair. I wasn't aware that was RJ's 'company line' for a while now, that 2 or 3 books were all that were left in the series. I'd love, as would most I think, to know how many more are left... but that's not really my point, even.

I just mean, overall, the only reason why most people even -cared- that CoT wasn't full of much excitement, is because the series -is- that good, and we've come to care about it. ;)

Seems to me that RJ knows what he is doing. Really. Look at all he created. I have faith in his plan, even if he really doesn't have much of a plan. The rest of the books could stink, but I want to know how it all plays out, darnit! :)

One more thing. I think you'll see that he -did- pull off the 'setting another book up' thing in CoT. We just have to see what's coming to know for sure!

If he is setting up Book 11, it is my opinion that Jordan did an extremely poor job of it. If this were LoTR, Frodo and Sam would not only have stopped over at Minas Tirith for a good long bath, they'd pick up a couple of girls and spend the rest of the book planning their trip to Mordor. Which they WILL get around to. Eventually. Maybe after the book about Aragorn and company musing about how they might recover Boromir's body and see if "the Balrog Method" of getting him back from the dead would work.

I have nothing to add as I stopped a few books ago but I love to read all the bashing. I never grow tired of it.

I'm with you here. I stopped reading this beast after book 5. I sit back and like to read the complaints and the rants and I ALWAYS throw my opinion in on any WoT thread.

The amazon reviews are really really funny :)

I haven't read any of them and still find the commentary incredibly entertaining.
