I have a question regarding how a sorcerer's power level changes as he gains levels in a prestige class (let's say as a Loremaster, just for argument's sake). The prestige class description says that when the character gains levels in the prestige class, he gains 'spells per day' as if he had advanced a level in his pre-prestige arcane-spellcasting class.
My question is, what does this mean for a sorcerer? Does he not gain new 'spells known'? F'rexample, if he goes from Sor7 to Sor8, he would gain a new spell level -- 4th level spells -- and would know one new spell of that level. But what if he goes from Sor7 to Sor7/Loremaster1? Does he gain that new 4th level spell? My thinking is that he would, but my GM insists that as the description reads 'spells per day' only, he does not know any new spells -- he just gets more of the ones he already has.
Any input y'all can provide would be much appreciated. I've already looked through WotC's FAQs and can't find anything on this. Thanks!
