Questions about build

parinho7

First Post
i am working on a build this days and i have some questions that i'll be posting here instead of creating a new thread every time.

here are some of my question:

q1: if i move 10 ft and use the swiftblades swift surge and then cast whirling blade does the +1d6 damage bonus apply?

q2: if i cast flaming weapon and then whirling blade does the fire damage apply?

q3: does the dragonscale husk ac bonus stack with luminous armor?

q4: this is not a rules question, i just want your opinion. do you think mettle is useful? i am planning on taking a level of pious templar instead of a spellcasting class, does it worth it? if so, then at witch level? i am planning on taking it at level 19, should i take it sooner?

thanks in advance

1. As if you had swung it in melee.
2. As if you had swung it in melee.
3. Dragonscale husk is natural armor, iirc, which means it is a different type of AC bonus than Luminous Armor.
4. Mettle is good, but if you've survived 19 levels without it, you can probably do ok without it.

3. Dragonscale husk is natural armor, iirc, which means it is a different type of AC bonus than Luminous Armor.

the book says:

Your scaled hide grants you a bonus to your Armor Class equal to 6 + 1/3 your class level in the class that granted you heavy armor profi ciency (+7 bonus to AC at 3rd level, +8 bonus to AC at 6th level, and so on, up to a maximum +12 bonus to AC at 18th level).

in the entire description its not mentioned that it's natural. is it untyped? if so, does it stack with luminous armor? also, does untyped bonuses stack?

If it is untyped it will stack with Luminous Armor. (Although considering the flavor of Dragonscale Husk, one would expect it to be a Natural Armor bonus.) Dragonscale Husk is explicitly stated not to stack with feats, racial abilities, or special ability that grants an AC bonus, though.

It's rather poorly written. You need to talk it over with your DM because the way it is implemented contradicts the flavor. You grow scales... and are therefore unable to benefit from the Dodge feat? What arbitrary silliness.

Don't recall if untyped bonuses stack with each other, but I think they do.

Actually, I expect Dragonscale Husk to be an "armor equivalent" AC bonus, and would not stack with things like Mage Armor. I base that on the notion that Dragonscale Husk is replacing your armor proficiencies and that it is far more similar to armor than the exalted AC bonus Vow of Poverty characters get that does not stack with armor bonuses (not that you can wear any in that case, of course).

Also, some quotes from the book: "You gain the extraordinary ability to grow a thick, scaly hide that protects you like armor."

"Your dragonscale husk is treated as medium armor for the purpose of determining your speed and whether or not you can use class features..."

"You cannot wear any other armor while your husk is present."

So umm...I think it's pretty clear what the intent was for bonus type... There are several parts where it says it can't be affected by spells or enhanced like armor, but i guess the AC progression is meant to account for that.

This kind of reminds me of when people argue that Warforged's composite plating should be treated as natural armor just because it's attached to their bodies.

I will say the line about not gaining any benefit from a feat, racial trait, or special ability that would add to armor class is EXTREMELY poorly written. Way too broad and punishing, should be clarified to not stack with any other armor bonus. I also think they should have made it clear that level = CLASS level (or at the very least, class levels in classes with heavy armor proficiency, which you then forfeit in order to continue husk advancement), not character level. I've seen people try to cheese the text to say they can just dip into Fighter for the husk and then continue to gain the level up benefits in a class like Rogue.

*Reads over again* Ok, I see that you must continue to forfeit armor proficiencies from new classes or else lose the husk. Even so, I find it rather cheesy to just dip and get it, and then continue on in a class that would not qualify from the alternate class feature and continue to accrue benefits.

How is that different from dipping into fighter to get heavy armor proficiency and heavy shield proficiencies, then continueing to get rogue lvls for the sneak attack bonus?

Well, to be specific, it does spell out that the armor bonus only continues to increase in classes that have heavy armor proficiency. The bs argument another player tried to pull was that the energy resistances section only referred to level and not class level, and thus he thought he could get some free resistances down the line with just a dip.

q5: i have domain access to the war domain and the holy warrior feat. if i am in an antimagic field does the bonus damage apply? can i use reserve feats inside an antimagic field?
