Questions about Double-swords

no +1 to hit from the double sword as you get with daggers, its just like a rapier except your rogue must always have two hands free to use it and it gets +1 AC? hmm not sure if always needing two hands is a big enough disadvantage compared to the 1AC *ponder ponder* and its bulky hmmm

Fair, I don't like that it's so much better than the rapier then, which is an iconic rogue weapon and also superior.

The no feat cost, more accurate, have their own paragon path, throwable daggers remain a viable option :)

I also don't like the ability to layer light and heavy blade feats. I mean, the idea of being able to Deft Strike on OA (HBO) with nimble blade is cool, and all, but it just doesn't seem right.

True, I think a double sword should either be made a lightblade or heavy blade at start but that would lead to a heavy-double-sword and a light-double-sword

If the special enchantment of a weapon only effects the heavy end of the blade that might make sense as well, leaving the the weapon as a niche for fighter/rogues and those types

(I LURVE this solution, but wont be following it through because we use the character builder and it is already built in with double swords)

Im pretty easy on players for swapping from ranged to melee, so the "can carry throwing weapon in off-hand" argument has little appeal for my game.

But thats the point isnt it. As GM's, we have to decide what is best for *our* games, and no one thing is going to be appropriate for everyones. Also, if there is one thing I have learned about 4th edition it is that, whilst it is an excellent system, its not flawless. We (myself as GM and one other player who is a fanatical number cruncher) go to alot of trouble to ensure that even the documented rules fit, and we NEVER assume that just because material is official that its right. Far too many cock ups for that.

So in the spirit of this I have to so...for my game...no Double weapons. Problem solved

You just need to decide if you wield it as a light blade or a heavy blade.

If you use an urgrosh, you need to decide if you use the spear end or the axe end...

i know, those examples aree quite different, since a double sword is symmetrical, but you usually use a light blade to stab and a heavy blade to slash...

i guess even if both applications of the same weapons dela an equal amount of damage, it is clear, that you use HBO with a slash, and nimble blade and sneak attacks with a precise stab, so it would be far fetched to combine those feats and powers...
