Questions About Raising Undead

Corwin of Amber

First Post
I have a few questions about raising undead. Note: I have the Corpsecrafter feat and Deathbound as a domain.

1.) When a making a zombie, do I count the original or total HD for the max amount I can control?

2.) Does Corpsecrafter add +2hp per original # of HD or for the doubled HD of a zombie?

3.) If the original creature does not have a full attack option, even if the BAB is high enough, does it gain one from its new modes of attack if the adjusted BAB is high enough? (Specifically a Tyannosaurus has a BAB of +13, as a zombie it would be +18 and the creature would have a slam attack option in addition to its bite.)

4.) Do taloned feet, such as those of an ostrich, count for incresed damage via the skeletons gained claw attack, even though they're not actually "hands?"

Thank you for any help you can give.

1.) When a making a zombie, do I count the original or total HD for the max amount I can control?

The HD of the undead creature in question is what you would use. A 2HD kobold zombie, for example, would count as 2HD toward your maximum (you would not, in other words, count a 2HD zombie as 1HD toward your maximum because it was originally a 1HD creature).

2.) Does Corpsecrafter add +2hp per original # of HD or for the doubled HD of a zombie?

All undead HD would benefit from your feat. Keeping with the previous example, a 2HD kobold zombie would receive +4 hp (not +2hp for originally being a 1HD creature).

3.) If the original creature does not have a full attack option... does it gain one from its new modes of attack if the adjusted BAB is high enough?

A few things here...

Creatures do not recieve additional attacks from a high BAB when using natural weapons (A T-Rex has a +20 bite as opposed to a +20/+15/+10 bite).

Find a creature that uses weapons... and you're golden. A Cloud Giant Skeleton, for example, receives additional attacks when using a weapon (thanks to its +8 BAB).

But... for zombies, you're still out of luck. All zombies gain the following special quality:

Single Actions Only: Zombies have poor reflexes and can perform only a single move action or attack action each round. A zombie can move up to its speed and attack in the same round, but only if it attempts a charge.

A minotaur for example receives additional attacks with its greataxe due to BAB... a zombie minotaur, not so much.

4.) Do taloned feet, such as those of an ostrich, count for incresed damage via the skeletons gained claw attack, even though they're not actually "hands?"

If the base creature previously had a claw attack, you would use the better of the two (either the original claw damage or the claw damage based on skeleton size).

Hope this helps!
