Questions to Roy and Star: 283 onward

[note: I'm going through answering what I can from memory, there's going to be alot of skipped questions since I'm not going to post anything I'm not 100% certain on.

Could you give us a specific look at how the new summon mount ability works for a palidin? Is it a spell/special ability that summons an extra mount when you can't bring yours along? Does it simply let you teleport your normal mount in and out of an area at need? Or is it the only way to access your mount?

Thanks!

Ok I don't remember everything about it but what I do remember is that you always summon the same mount and the mount always has the equipment it had when you last dismissed it. When you summon your mount it arrives fully healed and refreshed and you can dismiss a mount to gain a new one (I don't remember the specifics of how you get a new mount or how long it takes).

handedness

I am assuming the drawback for small guys is that the damage is less? So Can my halfling carry a greatsword and just not do as much damage with it? and could I wield a longsword one handed and simply do less dmage or do I also suffer attack penalties?

Thanks!!!

Re: Re: weapon sizes

That I remember. The Equipment section has 2 Damage ratings for each weapon one for Small and one for Medium creatures. I don't recall off hand wether there were also 2 Weights listed though.

I assume that small creatures like halflings can continue to use medium-sized creature weapons pretty much the same was as before? This is relevant because if you are playing something like a halfling in a campaign where halflings are a minority, you might prefer to use small human-sized weapons (like daggers or short swords) because they are more readily available.

Thanks,

I went through the old thread and gathered all questions that were afaik still unanswered. Should save you some time skimming the old thread:

3) Have there been any changes to the Human abilities?

No, they're identical to 3.0.

6) What classes get Tower Shield Proficiency for free?

Fighter for certain, sorry I don't remember if Paladin or Barbarian get it.

Bard:

8) How is the bonus called that Inspire Courage bestows? Does it say anything about if it stacks with other bonuses?

It's a Moral bonus.
9) If a Bard takes a prestige class that allows spell advancement, does that allow him to swap spells?

I don't remember seeing anything and I'd assume that those kinds of rules would be in the DMG.

12) Can you state if the following is correct or what is wrong:

LvL, BaB , Sav, HP , Dmg , Spd, AC
--------------------------------------------
1, 0, +2, 1d8, 1d6, 30, +Wis
2, +1, +3, 2d8, 1d6, 30, +Wis
3, +2, +3, 3d8, 1d6, 40, +Wis
4, +3, +4, 4d8, 1d8, 40, +Wis
5, +3, +4, 5d8, 1d8, 40, +Wis+1
6, +4, +5, 6d8, 1d8, 50, +Wis+1
7, +5, +5, 7d8, 1d8, 50, +Wis+1
8, +6/+1, +6, 8d8, 1d10, 50, +Wis+1
9, +6/+1, +6, 9d8, 1d10, 60, +Wis+1
10, +7/+2, +7, 10d8, 1d10, 60, +Wis+2
11, +8/+3, +7, 11d8, 1d10, 60, +Wis+2
12, +9/+4, +8, 12d8, 2d6, 70, +Wis+2
13, +9/+4, +8, 13d8, 2d6, 70, +Wis+2
14, +10/+5, +9, 14d8, 2d6, 70, +Wis+2
15, +11/+6/+1, +9, 15d8, 2d6, 80, +Wis+3
16, +12/+7/+2, +10, 16d8, 2d8, 80, +Wis+3
17, +12/+7/+2, +10, 17d8, 2d8, 80, +Wis+3
18, +13/+8/+3, +10, 18d8, 2d8, 90, +Wis+3
19, +14/+9/+4, +10, 19d8, 2d8, 90, +Wis+3
20, +15/+10/+5, +10, 20d8, 2d10, 90, +Wis+4

While I assume it's there I can't state with certainty that the Wis bonus to AC is still there (just something I didn't look for). Everything else is right though.

LvL, Special
--------------------------------------------
1, Bonus Feat (Stunning Fist or Improved Grapple), Flurry of Blows (+1 attack, -2 on attacks), Unarmed Strike
2, Bonus Feat (Combat Reflexes or Deflect Arrows), Evasion
3, Still Mind
4, Slow Fall (20 feet), Ki Strike (Magic)
5, Purity of Body, Flurry of Blows (+1 attack, -1 on attacks)
6, Slow Fall (30 feet), Bonus Feat (Improved Disarm or Improved Trip)
7, Wholeness of Body
8, Slow Fall (40 feet)
9, Improved evasion, Flurry of Blows (+1 attack, no penalties)
10, Ki Strike (Lawful), slow fall 50'
11, Diamond Body, Flurry of Blows (+2 attacks, no penalties)
12, Slow Fall (60 feet), Abundant Step
13, Diamond Soul
14, Slow Fall (70 feet)
15, Quivering Palm
16, Slow Fall (80 feet), Ki Strike (Adamantine)
17, Timeless Body, Tongue of the Sun and Moon
18, Slow fall (90 feet)
19, Empty Body
20, Slow Fall (Any distance), Perfect Self

If that's based on my previous post then it's correct, I was typing it with the book in my lap.

Ranger:

22) When you get an additional +2 against your Racial Enemies, does that affect only the Racial Enemies you already had, also the Racial Enemy you gained this level, or even the Racial Enemies you get to pick later? If you have 3 Racial Enemies, are your bonuses +6/+4/+2 or +6/+6/+4 or +6/+6/+6?

Neither, every time you get a new favored enemy you get a floating +2 to apply to any one of them (and you can choose the one you just got). So at 5th level you could either have +4, +2 or +2, +4 and at 10th level your options are +4,+4,+2 or +6,+2,+2 or +2,+6,+2 or +4,+2,+4 or +2, +4,+4

Rogue:

26) Does Sneak Attack still apply when your target is not permitted to add his Dex bonus to his AC and when you are flanking him, or have the conditions changed?

The conditions have not changed.

Wizard:

29) Is the Wizard spell list different from the Sorceror spell list?

No

===== Skills =====

34) How does Jump work now? Does it list different DC's for different distances?

Yes, sorry but I can't remember the DCs or distances though.

39) Who have Knowledge (Dungeoneering) as a class skill?

That was listed elsewhere but the only class that has it specifically is Ranger.

===== Feats =====

45) What does Animal Affinity do?

+2 Handle Animal and Ride

51) Does Power Attack have a limit of +5?

No

52) What skill is Track based upon? Can you try it without the feat?

It's based on Survival, I'm not sure about the other part though.

54) Does Weapon Finesse now require one slot for all weapons? What weapons are affected? Does it apply to fists?

One slot for all weapons yes. I don't recall that the list changed at all except that Whip was on it (and I don't remember if that was true of 3.0)

55) When using Weapon Finesse with a tower shield, do you get the tower shield regular -2 penalty on top of the armor check penalty?

I would assume so but it didn't say specifically.

===== Equipment =====

58) How much cover does a tower shield grant? Can you lower it at will?

Full

65) Does damage reduction prevent or regenerate damage? Do secondary effects still apply if the primary damage was reduced to 0, such as poison?

In all places I say Damage Reduction it said regenerate's instantly, I'm not sure about the poison thing though.

71) Does Analyze Dweomer now only work on one item or one item per level? Does it identify all effects or just one?

It identifies all effects and I know that it effects more than 1 item but I'm not sure on the limit.

72) What's the use of casting Analyze Dweomer over Identify?

Identify only works on 1 item per casting. I don't remember if there was a difference in the Material Components.

77) Are these the correct parameters for Entangle?

Components: V, S, DF
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Long (400' + 40'/level)
Area: Plants in a 40'-radius spread
Duration: 1 minute/level
Save: Reflex (see text)
SR: No

Yes

87) Does Identify now only work on one item or one item per level? Does it identify all effects or just one?

One item, all effects.

92) Is it true that Polymorph (and thus Wild Shape) only grants Exceptions Attacks and no other Exceptional Qualities?

Yes, for example turning into a Wolf will not give you Scent. However if you Wild Shape into an Elemental you gain all of it's attacks and qualities.

102) Did Wall of Force change?

Wall of Force now has to be a flat, unbroken wall.

You could wield a Halfling Greatsword which would be a Medium Weapon for a Medium character and it would do less than the Large Greatsword that the Medium character was wielding.

I'm really confused on the numbering now, but here is my question (s):

Is Eschew Materials still a metamagic feat? Does it still require a prerequisite of any one metamagic feat?

No, it's just a regular feat; and No, all it requires is 1+ spellcaster levels.

small everything

I see, there are now small VERSIONS of all weapons! ahha

So my halfling could use a halfling long sword in one hand but it would not do as much as the noral longsword but more then a normal shortsword. correct?

(If I am being a pain in the Butt you can feel free to ignore my halflingcentric questions! :)

Could you list the "oppostion (forbidden) schools" for each school of magic?

Any 2 schools, there are none listed as examples except that you cannot choose Divination. (with the exception of Divination with which you only have to give up 1 school).
