Quick Fiendish Vermin Answer Needed!!!

According to the SRD, creatures with the Fiendish template become Magical Beasts. Does this mean a creature that was previously Vermin loses that type? If so, isn't that kinda weird? A fiendish praying mantis no longer gains the Vermin traits?

edit: Maybe it's not so weird. I just noticed that the major vermin trait is mindless and fiendish creatures have min Int of 3.

If a template changes the base creature’s type, the creature also acquires the augmented subtype unless the template description indicates otherwise. The augmented subtype is always paired with the creature’s original type. Unless a template indicates otherwise, the new creature has the traits of the new type but the features of the original type.

Whenever you add multiple templates, pay attention to the creature’s type—you may add a template that makes the creature ineligible for other templates you might want to add.

...I think I confused myself...

Vermin have the following features.
  • 8-sided Hit Dice.
  • Base attack bonus equal to ¾ total Hit Dice (as cleric).
  • Good Fortitude saves.
  • Skill points equal to (2 + Int modifier, minimum 1) per Hit Die, with quadruple skill points for the first Hit Die, if the vermin has an Intelligence score. However, most vermin are mindless and gain no skill points or feats.
A magical beast possesses the following traits (unless otherwise noted in a creature’s entry).
and the benefits, etc, of the template itself.

edit - ha! the only change by switching the traits from vermin to magical beast is that it lost the mindless trait and gained low-light vision...upgrade!
