Quick, I need a character concept!

Okeydokey, Corlon is starting a seafaring campaign in a few days, and I need to come up with a character concept! It's a low magic world, and we'll be using a Base AC mechanic (like in SWd20). Magic items cost double, and we start at either level 3 or 5, not sure yet. Sorcerers in the world are considered a 'threat' by the Wizard's Guild, and Wizards are highly restricted by the two cumbersome arcane caster's organizations (the Battlemages and the Wizard's Guild).

Some ideas I've had . . .

*A water genasi paladin who considers himself the Avatar of the God of Waves
*A Sorcerer on the run from the Wizard's Guild, specializing in nasty tricks at sea (you know, flame spells against ships, and using Sonic Substitution underwater)
*A feared pirate who lost his ship and crew to a violent storm

Any other neat ideas, or cool ways of developing those above?

He's a benighted ninja farmboy who knows the secret of the alien invasion. She's an enchanted kleptomaniac mercenary with someone else's memories. They fight crime!

Bam, there ya go. Two characters right there.

A former knight who was banished from his order because he let his morality get in the way of the politics of his order. Too goodly to stay in the corrupt order, he was exiled to the sea, and was forbidden to return to land, on pain of death.

Yep, Corlon's big into Scarred Lands supplements, but hasn't ever run anything in the setting (although he says that he might consider thinking about planning a bit of something for it). And i've done the Dread Pirate Roberts thing before. :D

That's a neat idea, RangerWickett. I might use it! Probably a human paladin build . . .

I vote for the Dread Pirate too. Except, be like a fledgling dread pirate, whose goal is to become truly dreaded. Whatever you play, you have to have a sword that belonged to your father, who was wrongly killed by whoever is in authority. If you find a new, better sword, ditch your "father's sword" and tell everyone that this new sword did indeed belong to your father, and had thought it lost for all these years. Make lots of pointless dramatic speeches about how you will gain vengeance on all who oppose you, for it is the will of Fate itself that you do so. Speak with a bad, vaguely defined accent.

Man, I miss that character.

Hmmm...

A ranger/foe hunter (sahuagin) might be neat, as would a druid/marinelord. Tack on some levels of Kings of the Seas, and you're golden.

Others:

A bard/royal explorer on a quest to chart new lands (Marco Polo)
An ex con character looking for a new life.
