Quick Opinion Needed: 2 best spells for a first level Druid

At 1st level, shillelagh can turn a druid into a combat monster compared to other 1st level characters.

Entangle is a must have

these two are always good. i would recomend scribe scroll as your 1st level feat so you can add other usefull spells to your arsonal.

Entangle is only good if you are in an area where there are plants available to entangle with.

In a city or a dungeon, it's usually useless.

Shillelagh get's my vote, unless you know you are going to be adventuring in an area with available ground cover.

Of course, the last druid I played was a half-orc with a 16 strength. He used Shillelagh and the Spikes spell a lot.

I thought that they revised that spell from 2e so you didn't need available flora for it to work (ie: Baldur's gate II-icewind dale)

nope, that is because of difference between the limits of coding and 'pen-and-paper'
