Quick Question #72

Destan

Citizen of Val Hor
Situation:

An illusionist has cast a Programmed Image prior to going adventuring.

Briefly, this spell allows one to create a figment (complete with visual, auditory, olfactory, and thermal elements - including speech) that's triggered by any number of things. In this case, let's say the illusionist has the figment set to be a demon that appears in a swirl of gaudy smoke when the triggered by the phrase, "I love cheese."

My question: Could the Programmed Image be subject to a Dispel Magic cast upon the Illusionist?

The particulars:
1) Programmed Image has a duration of Permanent, so that fits the Dispel Magic requirement.
2) Yet Programmed Image has no target. It's just an effect. Technically, it's not cast on the Illusionist, but by him.

Talk to me?

The effect of Programmed Image is not mobile.

Once you cast it, it stays in the same volume of space (a 20' cube, plus one 10' cube per level).

It' s not going to move around with the illusionist. If, for example, he casts it on his home, it's there, on his home ... not on him. Therefor, a dispel magic against the Illusionist is pointless WRT the Programmed Image, and that spell isn't in effect on the Illusionist.

A Dispel Magic targetted on the programmed image spell itself, however, would work just fine ... just like with any other spell.
