Quick Question about online gaming

First Post
One of my players is moving to China, and it will be difficult (read=impossible) for him to play in our weekend games. I was wondering if there is a way to play online. I remember being in a chat room where you could type in roll a d20 or something like that and it would assign a random number 1-20. Does anyone know where I could do that? Has anyone tried to do online gaming?

There are lots of online dice rollers.

My group is scattered across the U.S. from Coast to Coast, we play by e-mail with a Yahoo group set up for it. We find it is best for the DM to handle all rolls. We have been going strong for a few years now by e-mail with almost daily correspondence.

Also you can check out the playing the game forums for play by post games here on ENWorld. You could even set up a thread for your game there for him in the playing the game and talking the talk forums.

That is the one we use.

Some advice, e-mail gaming generates a lot of e-mails, change the subject lines frequently so they are relevant to the message, this helps in looking back over old ones.

Setting up a yahoo group is free and allows messages to be stored and files like character sheets to be put up and links such as to the above dice roller.

I think I have a script for an mIRC dice roller, so when someone rolls, everyone sees the result. I have tried the dice roller, and it works, but I have never played online.

My understanding is that modems are heavily controlled by the Communist government of China... Are you even sure that he'll have internet access?
