Quick question on Epic multiclassing.

The SRD isn't really clear on this, so I'm curious. Let me provide the example that best illustrates what I'm trying to ask.

A 5th Cleric/5th Wizard/10th Mystic Theurge takes another level of Cleric. Now, they would get the BAB and Saves increase of a standard Epic char of their character level; their class level is irrelevant for that. But! Do they cast spells as a 15th level cleric, or a 16th? Or is it some strange partial hybrid mix?

I can't find where in the SRD it makes this clear...if it does...

Gets the BAB of an Epic character. Cast as a 16th Cleric.

I don't understand why you might think it's a hybrid mix, or as a Cleric 15.

Well, it's more that every Epic class talks about never increasing casting ability (except caster level itself) beyond 20th level.

So if you're creating an epic char from scratch, doesn't that give a huge boost to combo classes? (Arcane Trickster, Eldritch Knight, Mystic Theurge, etc.) --Or is that what the 'bonus feats' are supposed to cover? i.e. is the SRD trying to say that four levels of full caster progression is about equal to one epic feat?

Oh, oh. When you take the 6th level in Cleric, it's not the epic progression. You have to have 20 levels in Cleric before you take a level in the Epic Cleric class.

And it doesn't give a bigger boost to combo classes than it did before, I don't think.

What that means is that your spell list progression (both in spells per day and spells known, if applicable) doesn't increase past 20th class level.

I've wondered about this too. If you are a 20th level figher, you have the choice of continuing in fighter or begin your career as a cleric. Sure you can't take epic fighter feats, but you would gain the spellcasting abilities, and still get the epic character feats. (I think the epic feats are divided between epic class and epic characters, could be wrong). You won't be an evocationist cleric, but at 29th level you can righteous might and divine power that everyone complains about.

The only reason I can think of not multiclassing into a spellcaster after level 20 is your ability scores, or perhaps some class feat that you have a chance of getting before 35th level.

Well, also in-character reasons. And for improving special abilities. And if you keep going Fighter, you get a bunch more feats.

Well thats what I get for being lazy. Well you still get the epic feat for every third level starting at 21st. You just don't get the additional figher epic feat every other level. If you were to multiclass into a fighter after 20th level the bonus feats from the sub-epic fighter class can't be used to select epic feats.

What the original poster was asking was if you could go on to 10th cleric/10th wizard/10th MT, and then be able to cast 9th level spells in each class, or if you were doomed to 8th level spells in each class because spellcasting advancement stopped at 20th level. You can continue on until you reach the 20th level of the chart. The only problem with MT at this point is you still arn't an epic cleric or epic wizard. You need to continue gaining another 10 wizard levels with only the additional (non-epic) feats at each level, before you are a 20th level wizard and start getting the additional epic feats.

I don't recall, but there might be feats that require, for example, Fighter Level 26. It wouldn't be unheard of, anyway. If you're really hungry for feats, though -- and the Complete books help with that -- it's a good class to take, still.
