Quick question on Epic multiclassing.

Well, it's more that every Epic class talks about never increasing casting ability (except caster level itself) beyond 20th level.
There's your mistake. That applies to epic levels of the class, not epic level of the character.

The only reason I can think of not multiclassing into a spellcaster after level 20 is your ability scores, or perhaps some class feat that you have a chance of getting before 35th level.

SR 32.

Okay, I think I understand now, but I have another question. To continue the example, let's say the theurge is now a Cleric 10/Wizard 10/MT 10. His caster level is 20 for both cleric and wizard. Does he now have to take 10 more 'regular' levels in either cleric or wizard and reach, say, 21st Cleric level before he's considered an Epic Cleric, with access to the bonus feats etc? Or can he somehow shortstep that and be considered an Epic Cleric at 11th Cleric level, because he's got his 20 casting levels?

Edited for clarity.

Correct.

Yes.

Just to clarify the basic concept here:

To be an epic character you must be ECL 21 or higher.

To be an epic (fill in class name here) you must be 21st level in that class.

To be an epic (fill in 10-level prestige class name here) you must be 11th level in that prestige class and ECL 21 or higher.

Ah okay. Hrm. So running an Epic campaign involves a bit of houseruling then, if you allow non-core stuff. And in my example, the Clr5/Wiz5/MT10 would start levelling as an Epic MT, basically gaining 1 bonus feat in 10 levels. Interesting.

Thanks for the help guys. : )

EDIT:

Dur.

Note that he can't take the 11th level in MT until his 21st character level, so he'll need to find 5 more levels of something to take.

As in, you cannot become an Epic [class] until you are already an Epic character.
Clr5/Wiz5/MT10 is 20 class levels. The MT 11 would be at character level 21. I think you may have misread something.

I'd focus on getting to Clr10/Wiz10/MT10, personally...I seem to recall hearing that epic MTs don't really give any benefit of increased caster level compared to Clr/Wiz every other level.
