Quickest Prestige Class possible ?

One thing though - the 3.5 DMG specifically states that prereqisites for prestige classes should be at least 5th level to take a prestige class. 3.5 DMG pg 197 "When you design a prestige class, make sure that characters must be at least 5th level before they can meet the entry requirements."

If the requirements are not set so, then IMO, the prestige class is not 3.5 compatable.

Regarding the 'minimum 5th level' rule, I think that is a mistake sometimes.

I've designed a series of prestige classes meant to be taken by low level adventurers to help them operate in certain environments. They are usually between 1 and 3 levels in length and offer abilities that can help a PC operate in a limiting environment.

As an example, I have a 3 level prestige class for melee combatants which grants abilities useful to PC races when they adventure in the underdark. The skill requirements do not exceed 5 ranks and it requires only 1 feat. The abilities are appropriate for a 3rd to 5th level character. It fits into the game very well as a way to help humans survive in the Underdark at low levels. PCs can choose from abilities like bonuses to listen chances while in natural caves, increased range for darkvision, bonuses to climb checks when climbing natural stone, bonuses to knowledge (dungeoneering), the blind-fighting feat, resistance bonus to drow sleep poison, resistance bonus to mind flayer psionic blasts, etc ...

Survivor. IIRC, a 1st level human commoner qualifies to take the Survivor prestige class from Savage Species.

As soon as he takes it, he doesn't qualify anymore and loses the special abilities.
It is a silly class.

Anyway, I'd like to point out that you CAN take a Prestige Class at the level you gain a feat- as long as the feat is gained from pure levels, not a class bonus feat. The reason for this is because when you level up, you FIRST choose what class you're going to be, THEN you gain the skill points and class abilities for that class. For example, if you need a feat or skill ranks for a Prestige Class, and the class allows you to get the skills and/or feat at 4th level, you cannot take the Prestige Class until 5th level, since you had to take the 4th level of the class in order to get the skill points and feat in the first place. However, if you get the feat due to levels (like the feats you get at 3rd, 6th, 9th, and so on), you can choose to get the feat before or after you actually choose what class you're going to be- so if you need the Great Fortitude feat for a Prestige Class, and you're 5th level, you can gain the Great Fortitude feat upon achieving 6th level, and take the Prestige Class as your 6th level class.

I'm not sure I agree. By that logic, a human could get into the Forsaker class by level 3, because he gets his last prerequired feat at level 3?

. The rules for level advancement apply to this system, meaning the first step of advancement is always choosing a class. If a character does not meet the Requirements for a prestige class before that first step, that character cannot take the first level of that prestige class.

You can't chose your level-dependant features before you select your class.

Also, regarding the human following a racial deity, I think that's a valid rule, but the cleric description also says that you don't have to devote yourself to a particular deity and can choose 2 domains that represent your beliefs. Of course the Dwarf Domain is from FRCS, in which you HAVE to choose a god...

3.0 said basically the same thing. So, apparently it's only for when you design a prestige class.

Absolutely.

Not picking your feat to qualify for a class at the same level you pick the feat. Class first. There's no ambiguity about the rule.
