Also, note this:

Hide in Plain Sight (Ex): In areas of dim light, tall grass, or heavy undergrowth, a brownie can make itself practically invisible. Under these conditions, a brownie can use its Hide skill even while being observed and without having anything to actually hide behind.

Wanna reconsider giving 'em HiPS?
I'd prefer not, for the reason I stated above:

The original MM2 entry says "When motionless in natural cover they are totally invisible." It also clarifies that "They are 90% likely to be visible when moving, due to their speed."

To me that says that their size and skill at hiding makes them almost impossible to spot in a forest, and that they can move so fast you only see a motion blur. *Not* that they're some sort of transparent creature. A quickling standing still in the middle of the road would be no more invisible than any other critter that size.

I don't have the original brownie's description available, but it may have read the same.

However "In areas of dim light, tall grass, or heavy undergrowth, a brownie can make itself practically invisible" sounds very similar to "When motionless in natural cover they are totally invisible."

Since they are "mutated" from brownie stock, I don't see any reason why they wouldn't retain it.

The HD advancement is probably unnecessary. Most fey advance by character class nowadays.

not the sprites in the MM... ;)

7th should be fine. Ventriloquism might be cool, as they could throw their voice, then run 240 feet in the opposite direction. ;)

they've always had ventriloquism, you loon. :)

I definitely like the Climb bonus. I like keen sense rather than Alertness. I just realized that the brownie has Dodge as a bonus feat, so why not drop Alertness, make Dodge a bonus feat, and add a new non-bonus feat?

can we say Spring Attack? ;) although, with the current setup, how susceptible are they to attacks of opportunity?

oh... allright. ;) will it affect CR or LA?

"Brownies are capable of blending into the landscape very quickly, in effect using natural cover and speed to become invisible (and escape if desired)."

OK, you convinced me. :)

Well, uh...they're not sprites. :p (I'm fine with both)

No wonder it seemed like a good idea!

Not without saying Mobility first. ;)

Probably neither. If anything, it might bump LA up a notch, but it's already quite high.

actually, i was thinking of keeping Dodge as their standard feat, and Spring Attack as a bonus...

Ahhh...gotcha. I think the feat is still valid, since alacrity doesn't prevent it from drawing an attack of opportunity.

i was wondering!

ok, updating - how is it looking? do we need anything else, here?

I think we're there.

Go quickling, Tina Fey! (sorry, everytime I see "Tiny Fey", my mind changes it for me). :p

Hide in Plain Sight (Ex): In areas of dim light, tall grass, or heavy undergrowth, a quickling can make itself practically invisible. Under these conditions, a quickling can use its Hide skill even while being observed and without having anything to actually hide behind.
Keep in mind that the Quickling will be able to move 120ft/rnd while staying Hidden in most of its natural habitat. Average Spot DC would be 29, even while it's being observed and without having anything to actually hide behind.

Also note that this virtual invisibility is *not* benefited by its speed. On the contrary - if it moves more than 120ft/rnd (1/2 speed) it'll take a -5 penalty on its Hide check, and a -20 penalty if it moves more than 240ft/rnd. Not a very satisfactory translation of the original...
