Quitting a Game...

Are you talking 1-1.5 hrs during rush hour or are you talking about 1-1.5hrs + the rush hour delay?

If its the former, I'm shedding crocodile tears. My current group- which games on Tuesday nights- is located in the Dallas/Fort Wort Metroplex.

The group meets in whichever place is open to host. We currently have hosted games in Dallas County, Tarrant County, Colin County and Denton County. (Look towards the top right corner of the map.) And at one point had members in Johnson and Parker Counties before those players moved closer or completely out of the area. That translates into some commutes exceeding 2 hours.

The reason behind the willingness to commute is only partly a testimony to the quality of the group. Down here, everything is so spread out that we're used to doing a lot of driving for those things we desire...

Right now I'm on dial-up snailnet, connecting usually at 26.4k. I am moving closer to my sister in another town sometime in the near future. Then I should be able to get broadband and have more options like Skype.

Definitely do it. A large reason I turned to gaming on line is my disabilities. Not that I couldn't game face to face, I have, and still do, but its just so much easier to be able to stay at home, sit in my favorite chair, etc... and just game.

I use SKYPE for talking, and we use Maptools for the maps, having our PC tokens on, etc... and best of all, they are both free, and do a great job.

I only recently started gaming again after a 5 month break following the birth of my second child. That was definitely a hiatus though, rather than quitting a game. The plan was always to resume after a 3-6 month break.

Since I am the DM of the group that campaign stopped. The other players did keep gaming though. All but 1 of the players are also in a game that 1 of my players DM's so that game got changed from fortnightly to weekly while I had my break.

I did find the break good in some regards. I don't think I was close to getting burn-out beforehand but I am definitely really looking forward to gaming again. It has also given the group the chance to try out some other games that we wouldn't have played otherwise. Of course, spending some quality time with the wife and kids was good too! :o:D

So while not gaming isn't ideal, sometimes it isn't as bad as you think it could be.
