Quiver Question

Scooby

First Post
Is it possible to stock a Quiver of Elhonna with wands and pull a specific one out as a free action? Standard Action?
How about with Heward's Handy Haversack?

The size of the wands would take up a javelin spot.

Here is a related question. how many arrows take up a javelin spot? How many arrows to take a bow spot also?

I ask this as my character travels with his bow in the hewards Handy haversack or in hand leaving his quiver to hold as many arrows as it can hold. With 5 arrows a round / average of 6 round combats / 2 combats a day and rarely any arrows missing their target the supply of arrows must be great.

Hmm, checking the SRD, it seems that a Javelin weighs 2 lbs, while 20 arrows weigh 3 lbs.

If you're a powergamer, then logically since arrows are wooden and javelins are wooden, they are likely to have the same density, so for each three javelins in the Quiver of Ehlonna you can have 40 arrows. The same logic applies to the bow slots.

If it were my game, I'd rule that your Quiver's javelin partition holds as many arrows as javelins, since the magic operates on a number of objects rather than some weight, and suggest that if you want to carry zillions of arrows, a bag of holding works pretty well and costs 2,500 gp for more arrows than you can shake a carefully crafted, pointed, feathered stick at.

But there's no official way to measure this. In short, ask your DM.

Quiver of Ehlonna

This appears to be a typical arrow container capable of holding about 20 arrows. Examination shows that it has three distinct portions, each with an extradimensional space allowing it to store far more than would normally be possible. The first and smallest one can contain up to 60 objects of the same general size and shape as an arrow. The second slightly longer compartment holds up to 18 objects of the same general size and shape as a javelin. The third and longest portion of the case contains as many as six objects of the same general size and shape as a bow (spears, staffs, etc.). Once the owner has filled it, she can command the quiver each round to produce any stored items she wishes.

Caster Level: 9th; Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item, Leomund’s secret chest; Market Price: 1,800 gp; Weight: -.

No errata has been published for this, so it takes a standard action to command the quiver to produce an item - though it appears you may be able to command it to produce more than one item in a round (like, for example, several arrows). You may want to rule that this is a free action, however, as it really doesn't make much sense to say you can command your arrows up out of the quiver, but not use them until the next round.

A wand in probably teh same general size and shape as an arrow, so you could store up to 60 of them.

Smaller items can probabaly not be stored in the larger spots - the magic of this item perhaps wouldn't allow retreival - they might get lost in the bottom of the large storage spot.

With Heward's Handy Haversack you can retreive items with a free action (errata has been published for this).

Heward's Handy Haversack. Pretty much a "must-have" item for the well-equipped adventurer.

Of course, arrows in a Haversack is going to quickly result in a puncture (and subsequent loss of all items in the sack). It's a great place to store your hammer collection though.

From the SRD:

"The cost includes miscellaneous gear that goes with the weapon, such as a scabbard for a sword or a quiver for arrows."

"Arrows come in leather quivers that hold 20 arrows."

This means that for 1 gp you get a 3 lb. package that includes a leather quiver and 20 arrows.

I wonder if there's a reduced cost for arrows purchased separately? Surely leather quivers aren't that cheap that they include them for free.
