R2: Rats in a Maze [Manzanita judging]

Dak looks over his shoulder at the group. Sensing trouble, he takes off running. Tor immediately gives chase, yelling out with authority. "Halt! For crimes against the people and merchants of Ravensdale, you are bound by law! Surrender or force will be used against you!"

Tor closes the distance, but Dak remains just out of reach.

Metrius readies his mace and takes off after Tor and the man he recognizes from earlier that day, adding his voice to Tor's. "Stop!"

ooc: That's round one. Dak is now approx. 15' in front of Tor. Metrius is about 40' behind Tor. Everyone else is still standing on the street watching their companions chase Dak, about 120' away from Metrius. I still need initiatives for Gideon and Fimble. I rolled for Babette since Heckler is away with a medical situation.

Initiative
Dak = 20
Babette = 19
Tor = 9
Metrius = 4
Gideon = ?
Fimble = ?

Deciding that more force than mere grappling will be required, Tor will bring his chain to the ready as he continues to pursue. (I believe he can do this as part of his movement without slowing down.) If he can get close enough Dak will trigger an attack of opportunity should he keep running, and as the Chain has reach it's possible that even a withdraw action won't prevent this. In any event, the threat of the chain is likely to slow Dak down.

Initiative roll. (1d20+1=14)

With a snarl curse in Draconic, Gideon takes off at a dead sprint after Dak.

[sblock=OOC]Gideon will run (x4 movement?). If that takes him past Dak, that's fine. He wants to get ahead of Dak and try to catch him if he gets past Tor. If that doesn't take him past Dak, then he will continue his movement to catch up, or overtake him in the following rounds. If he gets the chance, he'll grapple Dak (+3 touch attack, +7 grapple check), or join in on a grapple with the other party members. He will refrain from doing damage (even though he really wants to), and if he must do damage, he will deal subdual. In further rounds, Gideon will pin him, and try to maintain the pin.

If Dak stops and surrenders, Gideon will still grapple him and rough him up a little (grapple, but refrain from damage, and go for pin).

Also, it is unlikely that Gideon has his shield readied, so it is secured on his back.

I may or may not have PC access over the weekend, so that's why I'm front-loading Gideon's actions.[/sblock]

Dak keeps running, but veers right into an alleyway and out of view for a second.

Babette, thinking of nothing better, draws her dagger and gives chase down the street.

Gideon takes off in full pursuit, heading toward the alley Dak ducked into.

[sblock=Tor: ]You can easily make it into the alley with a double move. You can draw & ready your chain, but can't make any attacks this round. When you reach the alley you see Dak sprawled on the slick paving stones of the narrow alley about halfway down. He's about 25' away from you. You can close to within 5' if you use a run (x4 move) but it will require you to make a Balance check. Apparently Dak didn't pass his.[/sblock]

ooc: awaiting Fimble's actions.

Inititiative
Dak = 20
Babette = 19
Gideon = 14
Fimble = 12
Tor = 9
Metrius = 4

Tor will be satisfied with using a double move and readying his chain, rather than using the run action. He'll repeat for any late arriving witnesses:

"Stop in the name of the law!"

Any rats or thieves waiting in ambush?

Fimble McGee, Gnome Illusionist

Quite surprised and rather baffled, Fimble twitches his fingers, winks his left eye, and points at the fleeing mystery man. From his outstretched hand, an ethereal glowing form emerges, propelling itself quickly toward the runner. It reaches him almost instantly and then simply hovers above and around him, illuminating him in the dark. Fimble drops his arm and scurries forward as fast as he can, along with the rest of his group.

OOC: Cast dancing lights (gnome ability), max range 110' (from Fimble), duration 1 min, trained on the fleeing man so he can't duck into a dark corner/alley or something.

ooc: Dak turned down an alley before your action, and he's more than 110' from you. You still want to try using the ability?

OOC: Yes, the spell is not line of sight, it can turn corners and such. So long as its within 110'. And I think it will help the others if they can see their quarry.
