R2: Rats in a Maze [Manzanita judging]

[sblock=ooc]Tor (character) doesn't mind continuing the investigation for another day, but as a player I was sort of hoping to move on to the next stage of the adventure.

Would it be OK if we continue to investigate in this manner if we do so in summary mode? Something like "you visit the remaining places on the list and find...."

In play by post, it could take weeks otherwise.[/sblock]

[sblock=OOC]Just a note to say that I'm fine doing the investigation as a summary, or playing it out.[/sblock]

ooc: you're assuming you make it to tomorrow. :]

The adventurers make their way back to the Wishing Well through the cool, damp evening. Street lamps do their best to illuminate the way, but there remain some pools of darkness. Everyone remains alert, keeping one eye on the gloom, but nothing jumps out at the party. In fact they don't see another soul out of doors the entire way back.

As they approach the inviting sight of the Wishing Well, warm light and comforting sounds spill out from the slightly ajar doors, they finally see another individual. A dapper looking young man emerges from the inn, looks around briefly, then hurries off in the opposite direction of the companions.

[sblock=Metrius: ]The young man strikes you as familiar. It takes a moment but you realize he was one of the three men who were watching you earlier today, the one who disappeared before you approached them.[/sblock]

[sblock=Tor: ]The young man strikes you as familiar. It takes a moment to figure it out, perhaps because of the new finery he's wearing, but you swear that the individual now hurrying away from you is Dak from Mr. Travers' ranch.[/sblock]

Gideon scowls at the man as he runs off. When Tor sprints off after him to try and tackle him, Gideon is completely surprised, and stands there for a moment, dumbstruck.

At the time Tor recognizes the individual, he is about 50' away. Looks like it's time to roll initiative, boys & girls. :)

Round 1 will just be Tor, Metrius, & the mystery man, everyone else will join in round 2.

Initiative=9

I think a flying tackle is best represented in the rules by a charge attack followed by a grapple.

Tor will therefore, if he goes before his target, travel up to 80' toward him and then attack.

Touch attack: 1d20+7=22
Grapple Check: 1d20+7=12

The grapple will provoke an AOO from Dak, though if he is flatfooted and doesn't have combat reflexes he won't be able to take advantage of it. If Tor is damaged by the AOO, the grapple automatically fails.

If Dak sees Tor coming and moves first Tor will chase him at his best speed (running if possible, double move otherwise.)

If, and only if, Dak acts first and runs away Tor will shout after him as he gives chase "Halt! For crimes against the people and merchants of Ravensdale, you are bound by law! Surrender or force will be used against you!"

Tor's preference is to have Dak knocked to the ground and grappled before giving himself away, but short of that he wants to be as clear as possible who the good guy is in this little public brawl.

edit: Probably moot, but I didn't include the charge bonus on the above rolls.
