R2: Rats in a Maze [Manzanita judging]

Fimble McGee, Gnome Illusionist

Fimble sits down and twiddles his thumbs, musing idly, "We did the right thing, right? I've never killed before. I suppose I still haven't killed. But they ambushed us, so what were we supposed to do? And hopefully the Council won't find us lacking in our investigative skills... I mean, it's been how many days? And the bandits had to reveal themselves to us before we got any sort of valid lead. Speaking of leads, who's going to talk to Drezel tomorrow and who's coming here for the interrogation? I volunteer myself to deal with Drezel. They mentioned 'representative', but I imagine we could have more than one if we wanted."

"When people try to kill you, it's generally a good idea to try to kill them right back. Pretty much a law of nature. As to the council -- it's only been a few days, any significant investigation generally takes weeks or months. I think it's been about a day and a half since we knew we would have to go into the sewers, and yesterday the weather was problematic. I'd suggest we go right now, but I think some of us could use a rest, and it'd be better for us to be healed and at full strength before we face the rats in their lair."

The party spends several minutes discussing the day's events when the door to the conference room opens. Simone, accompanied by an assistant carrying a sheaf of papers and a quill set, enters the room and directs everyone to a seat.

"I understand you had an eventful day. I'm glad to see everyone is ok. So, what can you tell me so far?"

Fimble McGee, Gnome Illusionist

"Actually, I believe Metrius is in need of medical attention, if you can spare it. Anybody else?" Fimble waits for a response from the others and Simone before he continues.

"As for the progress of our investigation, I am glad to inform you that it is moving along rather quickly." Fimble smiles at Tor. "Specifically, our inspection of the burglarized sites led us to the sewers. As you already know, we came here in hope obtaining some kind of map of the sewers, but lacking that we'll simply have to go blind. Metaphorically and literally, pardon my figurative language. And on top of that, we have managed to shake an apple out of our tree of contacts and we've arranged a meeting with that apple... tomorrow. We were on our way back to the inn when we spotted a suspicious character and attempted to apprehend him, and it was during that chase that we were ambushed. So now we have a little less blood, a few more questions, and a lot of potential answers. Tomorrow we'll have a chat with our 'apple', we'll have a somewhat angrier chat with our assailants, and we may descend beneath the city if those answers don't satisfy us."

Simone turns to Metrius, a look of concern on her face. "It's not serious, is it sir? I'll have someone tend to you after our meeting."

After listening to Fimble's description of the events so far Simone flashes her smile. "Well, it certainly sounds like you are proceeding even faster than we had hoped. If you need any assistance with this 'apple' please don't be afraid to ask." She nods to her assistant who begins packing up the writing supplies and quickly exits the room.

"You are all excused to continue your investigation and please let me know how your meeting goes tomorrow. Mr. Pinch, if you would lke to stay behind for a moment I'll look to your wound."

Fimble McGee, Gnome Illusionist

"Thank you for your offer, madame. We won't be needing the assistance of the council in our interview, no. This is what you hired us for, after all. We'll wait here for Metrius." Fimble gives Simone one of his signature bow-and-flourishes.
