R2: Rats in a Maze [Manzanita judging]

The party finishes their drinks and prepare to leave. As they make their way outside they notice the temperature has fallen considerably. The rain has slowed to a drizzle, but the heavy clouds remain, blocking out any linger light from the setting sun.

Metrius looks around, pulling the coat over his chain shirt up around his neck to try and keep the rain out. "One more for the night then. How close is it?"

"Not far, if I remember. Don't you have the records? At any rate, we should keep a sharp eye, as we may be followed." With that, Gideon sets off in the direction of their latest destination.

The companions find the list, do their best to get their bearings on the smaller streets in this neighborhood, and continue their investigation.

After a half hour of walking, and only one wrong turn, they find themselves at their destination. An imposing brick structure at the northeastern corner of the city. No ornate fence here, nor any well-kept lawn or garden. Steps lead from the sidewalk up to the large doubledoors, a lantern burns on a hook above the doors, illuminating the small porch.

Tor looks around, trying to seem casual, checking for any possible ambush.

"I'll keep my eyes and ears open, if one of you prefers to do the talking."

Babette climbs the stairs and employs the large knocker to alert the residents to their presence. After a couple of minutes, the door opens slightly, spilling more light out onto the porch. The light is quickly muted as a large frame fills the partial opening. "Yes?"

"Good evening. My name is Babette Delacroix. My associates and I are working for the Merchants Council," as she shows her identification card. "We understand there was something in the nature of a break in here not too long ago, and we would like to take a look around, and, hopefully, speak with someone here familiar with what happened."

The man seems to ponder this for a moment before opening the door a little wider. "Please, come inside away from the weather." He indicates a small waiting room off the foyer. "Please wait in here while I get the master."
