R2: Rats in a Maze [Manzanita judging]

Babette, still braving the dark and threatening skies out on the street, finally sees Dak exit the building. The young man scans the street in both directions, even looking up at the rooftops, before heading off. He notices Babette as he walks in her direction. "Your friends are deciding their fate inside, you might want to rejoin them," he utters as he passes by.[/sblock]

[sblock=Dungannon] "And what about your fate, Dak? Could be it's tied into ours, especially if we're working on the same problem for different people."[/sblock]

[sblock=Babette: ]Dak stops at Babette's words. "My fate is set, it appears. I'm going to die without seeing justice done. But at least I can still choose where, which is why I'm leaving. Good eve." With that Dak pulls up the collar of his cloak and heads off into the gloom.[/sblock]

After watching Dak leave, Babette rejoins her companions.

"Well, my hunch didn't pan out, but obviously something happened in here. What did I miss?"

Fimble McGee, Gnome Illusionist

"Well, Tor threatened Dak some more, Dak lied some more, Tor made him upset, Metrius tried to get him to join us, Dak cried and left. I didn't think we smelled that bad. Imagine his reaction after we hit the sewers! Oh yes, we decided we do have to go down there. Speaking of which, the sewers are rather extensive, I believe. Where should we begin, do we have any clues?"

Gideon sits quietly, deep in thought. When Babette voices her question and Fimble responds, he speaks up, "The sewers are now a definite destination for us. As is an antique dealer that Dak mentioned. And if Dak was telling the truth for once, I may have some issues with our employers next. I don't like being used, and they will regret it if that is the case. We have a location to start in the sewers, but Fimble is right, we could wander for some time down there. We should start in the morning, and it might be better if we start with the antique dealer."

"I'll second that motion. Has it stopped pouring yet? It's only late afternoon, I think. The antique dealer should be open still. What say we head on over there and take a look?"

ooc: Yes, it has stopped raining. And it is now well into evening.

Looking out the window, Tor says "It's later than you think. We should hit the sack and get an early start tomorrow. I'd prefer to go to the sewers next. They won't smell any better if we put it off."

Fimble looks outside and back at his mug, now empty. He wiggles his fingers and scratches his beard for a moment. "Hmm. I suppose it is too late." To Tor's suggestion, he nods towards his drained ale saying, "Alright, I admit I do feel like a rest, but the sewer system is probably a labyrinth. Do you have an idea as to where we should start looking?"

The little gnome plays with his blue cloak for a moment before he speaks again. "Here's a thought: We're working for the city. Whether or not they're trustworthy is... apparently up in the air. But the city must have a plan of the sewers, right? One of us could return to the town hall and request a map. Since we have no idea where to begin... it might give us some ideas at the very least." He thinks some more before addressing a concern he's just thought of: "Of course, if our employers are untrustworthy, then telling them that we're going into the sewers might... give away information that they haven't yet obtained. Personally, I'm inclined to believe the people who are paying us. Why would they hire us for a job and expect us to complete it based on false information? But that's just me."

Gideon nods in agreement, "That's a good idea Fimble. We could send one or two of our group back to the Merchant house for a map of the sewers while the rest of us go speak with the antique dealer. We could meet back at the inn where we have accomodations at around noon, and head for the sewers then."
