R2: Rats in a Maze [Manzanita judging]

Metrius comes out from the alley, his weapons sheathed and the wound from the crossbow bolt still evident, hopeful that sight of his holy symbol may add authenticity to Tor's words.

"It is true," he says, "we were lead into an ambush; one of the ambushers fled and is still at large. Please, is there somewhere secure we can take the prisoners?"

The watch lead examines Tor's papers while one of the others mutters something about "...more mercenaries for the Council..." The leader eventually hands the papers back to Tor as Metrius joins the conversation.

"It seems you're on the level, though I daresay I don't like the situation." He turns to one of his watchmen and sends him to fetch a wagon. "We will dispose of the deceased. I suggest you take your prisoners to the Council House. And in the future I'd appreciate it if you could notify the local patrol when you're going to be doing any 'investigating' in the area. We take our responsibilities very seriously and don't appreciate it when outsiders try to take them from us."

With the last comment you notice that the members of this patrol sport the insignia of the Blackwings, not one of the Guilds.

"We're hoping to finish up the investigation within the next few days, though that may be optimistic. I'm alarmed to hear that the council isn't working closely with the Blackwings, is there someone in the Blackwings we should ask our employers to coordinate with?"

The watch lead looks hard at the group. "They are supposed to inform the Captain of the Watch whenever they begin one of their 'investigations'. I will inform the Captain of your presence and I am sure he will take the matter up with the Council." He looks around as a small crowd starts to gather, curious as to what would bring the watch here. "I suggest you take your suspects to the Council House will all due haste, before this crowd gets any larger."

Fimble McGee, Gnome Illusionist

Fimble nods and looks to Tor and Gideon. He shrugs helplessly as he says, "Looks like it's up to you guys." Once the bound thugs are gathered up, Fimble leads the awkward procession to the Council house.

The gang gathers up their two prisoners and make their way through the city to the Council House. They get plenty of stares from the citizens, and more than a few share hurried whispers with others, but nobody interferes with their little procession.

It's midafternoon by the time they make their way to the front doors and their entrance causes quite a stir. A guild guard approaches them cautiously while other workers scurry out of the way. "Please halt and explain yourselves."

Fimble McGee, Gnome Illusionist

Fimble stands straight and puffs out his chest just a little bit. He addresses the guildsman, "Good sir guard, forgive us our blatant display of our assailants, but we desire no misconceptions about our purpose. We were attacked by these villains and we did our duty as agents of the Council to incapacitate them and deliver them here for questioning. We have documentation, of course." Fimble motions for one of the party to bring forward their papers. Once the guard approves them, he continues, "Now if you would, sir guard, please allow us to bring these two criminals inside so that justice may be served." The gnome bows politely.

Glad that Gideon and Tor are well suited to carrying the prisoners, Metrius pulls a bandage tight around his wound as they go, to stop the bleeding, and, he hopes, ease the pain a little.

I hope there's something the council can do to bring these two round, he thinks to himself, there's nothing I can do to help them.

The guard listens to Fimble's story while perusing the paperwork. He signals for another guard to go over and whispers something to him. The other guard quickly hurries off.

"Please follow me, let's get these two out of the lobby." He leads the way through a side door and down a short hallway. A small conference room waits for the group as three more guards join them after a moment's delay. "Please wait here for someone to come talk to you. These two don't appear to be in any shape for interrogation right now so we will hold them in a cell below. You may send a representative to assist with the interrogation tomorrow morning." The four guards take possession of the prisoners and carry them off.
