Some spells that will REALLY ruin his day:
Reciprocal Gyre (Complete Arcane): The buffer's nightmare. Every level of buff becomes a cube of damage. Don't fail that save, or you're in hideous pain. And dazed to boot.
Hold Person/Monster: Helpless. Even if he passes the save later, he's out for rounds.
Mindless Rage (Complete Adventurer): Attack only the caster. Gets hysterical if the caster's got a fly spell on too.
The Words of Faith (Blasphemy, Holy Word etc): The nukes for this situation, don't use them lightly, as they can really anger players. LA becomes a death sentence when these start flying though.
Confusion: What's he doing now?!
Rusting Grasp: NOOOOO! MY SWORD!!!!!
Dominate Monster: The ultimate doom.
Mind Fog: Will save or your will save gets worse. A whole lot worse. Then follow up.
Suggestion: Why don't you run and get help? Or maybe go after that guy running to find enemy reinforcements? (Yeah that's right, the illusory one) Psionic Suggestion is even worse, with that HIDEOUS duration.
Death Urge (Psionics): Will save, or crit yourself. With max power attack, you're trying to commit suicide. Deliver via a maximum surging Wilder for even more pain.
Mind Thrust (Psionic): The humble Level 1 power. Mind Affecting, will negates are its downside. The upside is the d10 damage per power point spent.
Mind Flayers. Mind Flayers solve everything.
And finally, yes, the Tactical Feats are awesome. As they should be, they gave fighters back their dignity and meant that they were no longer glorified meat shields for the spell lobbers once the 5th level spells start flying. I personally thank WotC for them, combat became more than "I hit him again".
