Ias: The maglins LA is at least +3, let's see, a +8 bonus to both Int and Cha in it self is worth at least a +2 LA on it's own, and the SR is another +1.

But other than that, very nice.

ok lets see

-1 size
+1 SR
+1 odd abilitys
= +1 ECl

they are small and beging small is not good for things.

Plus right now in play testing it as well.

My char has a 8 Str, 16 Dex, 12 Con, 26 Int, 12 Wis, and 17 cha.

+ being small does not help when you have an 8 Str right and a 12 con does not help with a d4 HD. Now that 26 int might do nothing.

Now be some others people math (That I can think of)

+1 size
+1 SR
+2 Ability
= +4 ecl

I did do an acid test on these people I can see other races being a better pick then this for they are not small have a -2 Str and -2 Con (which was a -4 at one point which would also up the ECL alot to you know -4 are just as good a +2 when it comes to ECL).

I'm going by the formular presented in Savage Species, which by the way is the most accurate of the LA calculators, and sice does not affect the total LA. Unbalanced ability scores do, usually by +1 or +2 to the final ECL, due to the high bonuses to Int and Cha more than outweighs the penalties to str and con, I went with +2, the SR also gives an additional +1 according to the book. The rest of the stuff is so small however that it shouldn't affect the final LA, which gave my calculations a final LA of +3. They should be balanced at LA +3, but if acid tests prove that they are not, reduce the LA by one. Remember though that a +8 bonus to int increases the number of skillpoints per level by 4, and that the bonuses to int and cha give a +4 bonus to the save DC's of spells.

Later, and they are still cool. ;)

Actually would you belive that I missed that entry... But the odd ability scores paired with their favored classes would still come out as a +2 to their total LA, which makes it:

Size: -1
Abilities: +2
SR: +1

For a grand total of +2

They are just not balanced as an LA +1 race.

Um, NO! they are not on the same level, let me explain it to you.

1. The maglin get a +8 bonus to both Int and Cha.
2. Their favored class is Wizard or Sorcerer (depending on their gender)
3. They get +4 skill points per level, with an additional +12 skillpoints at first level.
4. The DC's for their spells all improved by +4, that's a heck of a lot.
5. They can cast several extra spells per day compared to other races.
6. The maglin have spell resistance.

Do you understand now, a simple -2 penalty to str and con does not outweigh the enormous bonuses that they get.
