Races and Class and the Leak's Effect

It depends on if I like it enough when I look it over in the store. If I can find a comfy chair in the local B&N, it might get read in its entirety in the store.

Started at zero, remains at zero.

I'll probably thumb through it at B&N sometime. I was going to say that the information isn't really worth spending money on, but it would have ended up in Dragon, otherwise, and I'd have been fine with that. At least all the info is compiled for us in these books, without (other) ads, and at the news stand price of about four Dragon magazines.

Still, not really my thing. If I weren't in the process of wrapping my current campaign arc (i.e. if I could think about the next one), I might be inclined to buy them. But, only if there was a lot of text. Pictures are secondary, at best, to me.

It didn't affect my decision one bit.

I had already planned to buy it, and pre-ordered it from my FLGS last week. So while I'm enjoying getting the info early, I still fully intend to purchase my own copy.

I wasn't interested before, and I am still not interested. I might or might not leaf through the thing when the guy in our group who just buys everything gets it. If he even does.

cheers

I like fluff. I also would like to see the info on the Tieflings. However, I would much prefer the book be released as a living document on DDI. As it stands, I think the group and I will pull our resources and pick up a copy to skim through.

None-the-less, a preview book isn't a preview if the material in it doesn't match up with what's finally printed.

Well, I think that's because it's not a "preview of the final product," but a "preview of the development process."

I don't think I was interested in buying it before, and the titbits I've heard from our Hungarian friend make it seem that the gaps between what was decided when the book was written and what has since been decided may make it even less useful than I thought it might be.

My decision was pretty much going to rest on what it looked like when I thumb through a copy, but the leaks suggest that I'm likely to be less interested after seeing it rather than more interested.

Time will tell!

More importantly, I think, is that it is opening opening salvo of the non-internet-only marketting push. While we -- those of us that are watching the development of the game in blogs and Des&Dev articles -- might find it a waste of money, or might be irrittated that it isn't an "up to date" preview, I don't think that attitude is going to carry over to the dead-tree gamer. Far from being irritated that it isn't up to to date, I think the average puyrchased who follows the house ad in the back for D&DI (just assuming, but really, how could it not be there?) and finds that things have changed and that the games development is being discussed by the developers in a "live format" isn't going to be mad -- they are going to be ecstatic. And those that don't -- well, there's a long stretch of time between Preview Book and PHB and I don't think too many people are going to remember enough of the preview book -- after all, it is likely one of those spur-of-the-moment purchases that's read through for a week and then shelved or shared -- to be mad that things changed to some degree.

Overall, I think it's a good marketting move on WotC's part, especially as a draw in to D&DI.

Now, if only it wasn't for 4E... ;)

That's quite true. As I understand it, nearly the first third of the book is going to be exclusively about the development of 4E.

I voted the third. I had planned to buy Races and Classes, at least (and probably skip Dungeons and Monsters or whatever it is), and then whore it around to my gaming group.

All the leaks have really revealed to me is the lack of crunch. This was a bit disappointing to discover (I'd expected at least a few minor glimpses at crunch), and has tempered my enthusiasm somewhat, but not ultimately changed my buying decision.
