Races of Faerun... ummm.. yawn?

I think new races are really fun. Unlike PrC's, you can use them right away, so they actually might make it into a campaign. I also really like how they are fleshing out the human cultures of the realm, but really, I'm dissappointed that this is such a small part of the book. I would have really liked to see a whole bunch of new regional feats for humans, with descriptions of culture and stuff. This way, players would have another easy way to differentiate their characters, besides race.

There is nothing here I don't already have in a 2e or 3e book. Where are the Lycanthropes mentioned in old 2e Hall of Heroes?
(Werebison, Werecats, Weredogs, Weredolphins, Weredragons, Wereleopards, Wereowls, Werepanthers, & Werespiders)

Man..you mean I've been running my campaign this whole time without Weredolphins??

WHY DIDN'T ANYONE TELL ME THESE EXISTED?!?!?

Coolest....idea....ever.

What's that, Flipper? You want a fishy?? Flipper want a fis....AHH SWEET MOTHER OF GOD IT JUMPED OUT OF THE WATER AND IS BITING MY FACE OFF!!!!

Grrr! Not only do they leave out Derro, but they leave out THE race that they could've expounded on.

Kobolds.

I mean, they put in goblins, like 2 kinds of orcs, but not One kobold.

And, Where is the Werefox? C'mon! She was *hot*.

I, for one, will purchase this book. I think it has a lot to offer, and I am going to make extensive use of it in my new d20 Modern campaign actually.

I just hope they do a good job on the races, and make them pretty distinctive and detailed, or else I would feel ripped off.

Probably won't get it myself, since my FR purchases have slowed recently (probably not going to get Faiths and Pantheons unless I really want to expand some demihuman pantheons). Although Races of Faerun has good potential, especially if they emulate parts of Lords of Darkness and give some more 'race specific' npc tables, tactics, and the like to be used.

And Meepo, that's hilarious, and if you don't mind, I'm putting it in my sig :P (actually there already, but will remove if you do mind heh).

I have all Forgotten Realms books released for 3e, but I think I'll pass on this one. I mean.. is it just me, or could anyone care less about this? I just don't see great potential in it, and I think when this books falls on it's face, wotc/hasbro execs will see this as a lack of interest in FR in general, not in it being just a plain boring book.
my two cents
* looks around then raises hand *

I'm interested in the book. It's only natural to expand the PC races for Forgotten Realms.

Of course, I am passing on Silver Marches. My campaign does not take place in that Faerun region. To each his or her or its own.

Looks really good - a definite purchase. I was especially happy to see the Arctic Dwarf and Urdunnir listed. I think this book will hold some great material and be a good resource for players who want more info on their race (especially the human subraces should be interesting).

ROFLOL! Meepo, you made my night.

I'm looking forward to this book. It will be interesting to see more. I admit, I am a bit dissapointed in the lack of lycanthrope material in 3e.

Meepo, Meepo, Meepo.....even though you are not PC (not the D&D meaning) in chat, you cracked me up with that one. Was so good I had to email it to a friend that doesn't like to read boards.

As for the book.......I would say.....MUCH less info on the lesser known races and more on the human strains. At least judging from what we know so far.

I'm definitely going to buy this book because I do not own the corresonding 2nd edition books and would like to have the subraces more detailed in the book.
Of course, to get a better understanding of, for example, the difference between moon and sun elves, it is better to read the novels (in this case, Evermeet), but, to be honest, not everyone has time to read all the novels...

Besides that since I'm currently playing a dark elf bard, I'm interested in race specific feats. For example the 3rd edition drow was stripped of the ability to levitate. I suppose there will be a feat inside the book that you can take as a drow to gain the levitation ability. Furthermore, I'm still wondering how to make drow sleeping poison...
